Brunner had an amazing 2 way game. He had a back check where he took the puck form Throatin. We need to re sign this guy. Maybe they are waiting till the end of the year after the amnesty Franzen

they even have an amnesty clause in hockey?

Well, the biggest problem is they're better described as the Detroit-Grand Rapids Griffins right now due to all the injuries.

Which reliable scorers are they waiting to get back?

Bertuzzi was a very good goal scorer in his prime and has been consistent with 15+ a season since the Red Wings picked him up. There's a non-first line reliability about his scoring.

But you're obfuscating the point. The guys Datsyuk and Zetterberg play against are ALSO NHL PLAYERS. You can not surround the two of them with a bunch of unprovens and win a lot unless you're magically good at stocking your minor league with talent. Do you think not having Darren Helm's speed and play in the corners on the ice is neutral because he's not a 20+ goal scorer?

Over the next two summers, each team gets two "compliance buyouts." Also, I would think Quincey/ Sammuelsson would be more likely than Franzen, for as frustrating as Johan is, he still is a 30 goal scorer who is singed for less than 4 million a year, those guys don't necessarily grow on trees.

they don't have the defensive talent we've relied on for years

I took for granted the ability #5 (even Rafalski when we had him) had to get shots through from the point and to be able to play the blueline and quarterback the puck on the PP or just when we had the puck in the offensive zone.

Look at this video. Show me any other D-man in this league that would even think to make a pass like that to Hank....?

It came with the new deal. I have a feeling it was created to get rid of bad contracts that were created before the new cap. whistling

They've had a problem scoring goals for longer than this season, even when the injured players were playing. The scorers you mention were carrying the load last year too. Wings have about 1. 5 to 2 lines and when the rest are out there they're simply trying to keep the puck outta the Detroit net.

"We looked like a Hockey team". Dude is one of a kind. If Kindl continues to play well he can replace White role on the PP and actually be a more relaible defenseman. White may have more trade value Colvaceo since he is a PP specialist. Won't get much for him, but we could get a nice role player or a prospect.

Good in a shootout, but not a lot of firepower otherwise. 40 - 50 points/yr since the Wings brought back.

It would be nice if we could package him with other pieces to somehow get another scorer.

As far as a role player, I think we have too many of those as is when you consider Helm, Bert, Sammy, and Flip coming back.

This roster is in a unique situation: we have sooo many guys that have played this year and when everyone is healthy we have 3 excess defenseman and 4 excess forwards.

Educate me: if Pav DOES NOT take his hand off the stick, is it still a penalty?

On the Wings' forums, people were mentioning that.

Sorry I'm just getting to this now. As far as I know, which is admittedly not everything, any playing of the puck with a hand is illegal. My interpretation of the rule is even if he does not take his hand off the stick, its a penalty. Again, I don't know the rule exactly, but the way hand pass in any zone is called is by contact with a hand, regardless of controlling stick or not.

On a different note, Lashoff is a hell of a player. He's not going to put up a lot of points, but he is, additionally because of the number, a younger version of Stuart. The kid reminds me more of Stuie every game. The way he handled the 2-on-1 late in the game was simply spectacular.

I also thought Gustavsson looked real good, especially in the shootout. If he can stay healthy and continue playing this way, I think it makes it real tough on management and easier to shop on of Howard, Monster, or Mrazek. Preferably one of the first two.

Liking this team a lot right now.

Don't remember or didn't see the question in call.

You can catch the puck. You can't advance the puck with your hand. You basically have to catch the puck and lay it on the ice.

I remember hearing something to the effect of "he can touch the puck with his hand AFTER another player has already touched it".

But whatever, it is a moot point now...

Monster playing well is huge because Jimmy doesn't have whatever Marty Broduer has where he can play 70 games every year...

Personally I find it educational, when Eddie points out the subtle picks and interference that we get away with, at a rate unprecedented in the entire history of organized hockey.
