I take it Bradley and Dempsey aren't there due to EPL duties?

Bradley's there. Holden, Dempsey, Lichaj, and Altidore were virtually unavailable due to pre-sesason. We'll probably see all 4 in September.

Klinsmann with a fresh view brings the good, and the potentially ugly. Fortunately its a friendly, and not a full A-side because of the European pre-season.

Strong representation from the Mexican League, shows that there will be no MLS bias, since Klinsmann is not an MLS coach. That might suck for the MLS, but it's 2011 not 2000, they'll be fine.

Excited to see Castillo, Orozco, Torres, and Beasley. Not excited, but not surprised to see Ricardo Clark and Buddle.

Bill Hamid is probably the most telling pick as he has never played for the US at any level, for whatever reason. Klinsmann is going to shake things up, but the top players will still be the top players.

A few absences as the European season gets going, but indicative of some preferences on the part of the new coach....

GOALKEEPERS (2): Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Tim Howard (Everton)

-- Howard is the obvious starter, so no need to bring over a Guzan or Hahnemann for bench duty. Hamid is having a good season, and he's just 21.

DEFENDERS (8): Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Edgar Castillo (Club America), Timmy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls)

-- A typical group for right now, but we need to see the likes of Chandler and Ream earning their spots. Add in names like Lichaj, Franklin, Opara, Gonzalez, etc. down the line.

MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), José Torres (Pachuca)

-- Good to see Torres back in the mix, and Shea is showing touch and maturity in MLS. I've always been a Beckerman fan. Clark...not so much.

FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (Benfica), Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)

-- Well, Adu isn't a forward and neither is Beasley. Neither is Donovan. Buddle is, and right now, he's our best striker with experience. That says a great deal, as does this group of forwards. We're stunningly limited.

    Go Yanks!

He was on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach. There may be fans who saw more than I did, but Michael seemed to struggle with the pace in the EPL and lacked the first-touch needed for that level and style of play. Whether he's capable of making that adjustment is a matter for debate. He's 24, but in my view, that's a league that doesn't suit his game.....

Why in god's name does the homeless man, aka Kyle Beckerman continue to get call-ups to the nat's. Good lord, he is not worthy. He, Robbie Rogers, and Bornstein should just receive permabans from the USMNT.

Beckerman has been capped 12 times, and that's been mostly friendlies and a Gold Cup, so it's not as if he's been a central figure in the team. He has limitations and the World Cup level of play is beyond his capabilities, but if we're looking to fill out a roster for a series of friendlies, he's a solid teammate with a great work ethic. My issue with Bornstein has been that we have better options and Klinsmann at least realized Pearce is a more rounded player. Rogers, well, he's 24, but the between-the-ears aspect of the game doesn't seem to be advancing.....

I understand they are friendlies and lower level competitions, but the guy is worthless on the pitch at an international level. I fail to understand the reasoning BB and Klinsi are using here. Why continue to waste spaces on these aforementioned folks (i.e. Beckerman, Rogers, Bornstein) when we can get some younger, more promising prospects national team experience.

Sucks that all the clubs are gearing up for their domestic league campaigns, so we lose out on some guys.

  • BTW, Mexico's list is out and we're going with our full A squad minus Chicharito and De Nigris. The only true striker Mexico has for the game is Oribe Peralta, a pretty capable scorer but not nearly as good as the two guys he's replacing. Other than that, no surprises on the list... Carlos Vela and Nery Castillo aren't on the team, but they're not really "A" team players nowadays.

ManU up 1-0 in the 17th minute, and dominating possession. Good preseason test for Friedel, so I'm happy.

Josh Gatt, 19-Year-Old American Soccer Player, Is Spending His Summer Break Shattering Ankles

Josh Gatt is a 19-year-old from Michigan. He graduated from high school last year and turned down a scholarship at Indiana to sign with Austrian club SC Rheindorf Altach in summer 2010. In January of this year, he joined Molde, a top-division squad in Norway. Today his first-place squad beat Start, the last-place team, 2-1, and Gatt scored his second goal for Molde after a beautiful run down the right wing.

  • Chandler is still "recovering". If he doesn't play in September, I'm expecting him to never come back.

Replaced by Zach Loyd of FC Dallas.

Zach Loyd Added to U.S. Roster for Match Against Mexico - U.S. Soccer

U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has added FC Dallas defender Zach Loyd to the roster for the match against regional rival Mexico on Aug. 10 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Nothing has changed with Chandler. If there is concern that he would now prefer to play for Germany, the reality is that his talent level puts him on far edge of ever earning such consideration. His public statements have not wavered, and as these upcoming games are friendlies, they would have no bearing on whether he is cap-tied to the USMNT. He's not physically ready. • Well the new rumor doing the rounds today.....Sneijder to Man City. €38 Million. If true then this is one more example of why the game is getting ruined by oil rich idiots who can throw money around like it's candy.

In other news related to myself.....Arsenal have done some big spending it seems and signed Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell for £900k......ugh.

The Cesc saga continues again. He has not travelled with the team to Portugal for the game today and reports say that Ivan Gazidas is meeting with Barca reps to work on finishing this deal. Personally I am over this and we need to move on. Cesc was a great servant to the club but give us the £40 million and move on. Same goes with Nasri.

thats interesting regarding Joel Campbell, because what i had heard the fee was agreed, but he failed the medical... so unless they have redone it .... hmmm

and the rumour is that nasri hasn't travelled to portugal with the rest of the squad because he is talking to man city.....

Barca will finally blink if Wenger Names him in the champions league play off squad... because that gives them 9 days to put up.. or shut up!!

I do believe both Cesc and Nasri will go... I think Wenger have already lined up the replacement for Cesc in Eden Hazard and Nasri in Juan Mata

I would be more than happy with Hazard and Mata replacing Cesc and Nasri. The fee for Hazard will be astronomical I think but we will have the money to spend. I hope it shakes out like this in the next 2 weeks:

    Sell:
    Cesc - £40 mil
    Nasri - £22 mil
    El Pinko - £9 mil
    Eboue - £4 mil

If those came about that would be 75 million on top of the 35 million that is reportedly already available to make 110 million. Knowing Wenger there is no way in hell he spends 100 million in 5 transfer windows let alone one window. So here is what I hope:

    Summer:
    Gary Cahill - £16 mil
    Mata - £25 mil
    Jose Enrique - £7 mil

That would leave about 60 mil to go for Hazard and any other needs in January because hopefully by then Lille will be knocked out of the CL and will need the cash and possibly sell for around 28-30 mil.

But this post is probably pointless because none of this will happen and all the money will go to giving Squillaci a new contract.......

the figues are interesting... because the figures I'd heard in relation to mata is somewhere between 15 and 17 million pounds... and the figure for hazard is 20-22 million pounds...

the left back position actually isn't one i think is a big need... i trust in both Gibbs and Traore... the centre back situation is a bit mad since we all think we are short but he has let Bartley go on loan to Glasgow Rangers and Miguel on loan to sporting lisbon to sweeten the deal for El Pinko

I don't think we will see much of squillaci again... I think his dire proformance in the Emirates cup has seen to that.....

So the people I think they may well see come in .... mata, hazard, campbell would be one for the future if he gets thru the medical,.... i still wouldn't be unhappy if joey barton ended up at the emirates....one central defender (your guess is a good as mine)... and one more striker (name that keep coming up here is possibly Karim Benzema)
