Yeah, David Bingham is such a baddass uhoh. Beckham just gets a one game bad for accumulated yellows.

What was impressive was Beckham's accuracy when trying to hit that guy lol

Bale not on the Olympic Roster. Probably best for Spurs (Champions League qualifier), but I wanted to see him play for Team GB.

Spain, Brazil, and Uruguay are definitely going to be the favorites, excited to see their rosters.

gareth bale is actually "injured" so he wasn't available.... another may drop out... Daniel sturridge of chelsea has been rushed to hospital and is being treated for suspected meningitus...

England at 4 is a joke. But I can't really disagree with the US being so low. They have won two games impressively in the past 2 years. There might be some hope or promise with the team but they are not that good right now. Also, does anyone in there right mind think Montenegro is 16th?

  • Thanks for that statement RVP.....your transfer fee has now gone down immensely because everyone now knows you won't renew. Could have been an Arsenal legend but now just an injury prone guy with one superb season in 8 years (still love the guy till he officially leaves though).

I think we've seen the true ending of the Arena/Bradley program and it's hard to argue with the steps forward that were taken after the debacle of the 1998 World Cup. Now the US is in a true rebuilding mode, and why the talent comparison is obviously unequal, it's not unlike what Klinsmann did for Germany in 2006. He's trying to change a playing style, is transitioning to a new generation of players, and he's trying to influence an overall system of how the game is taught and coached in this country. When you're in the midst of that change (as we are right now) it's best to not pay much attention to such rankings. Heck, it's best not to even look at results.

The process is what's important and Klinsmann understands the report card isn't results in 2012.....it's qualifying for the World Cup, advancing from group play, and winning at least one game in the knock-out rounds. We already had coaches who could get us to higher ranking while slugging out results that gave us little chance past a group stage unless we got a favorable draw (see Mexico 2002). That approach peaked and the federation rightly turned the page. Much like German fans in 2006, I'm anticipating a couple of years of expressed frustration over results, how we play, form, etc. But as my friend Cym Jim rightly points out - the point of our national team is the World Cup. Period. Full stop.

We'll see. Until then, go Yanks and I'll get a chance to see the team in-person in September at the Jamaica qualifier in Columbus....

Let's see, just off the top of my head, here's a list of teams that belong above England.

Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, Portugal, Uruguay, Mexico.

Corinthians has been my favorite "small market" team since I took them to the world cup club championship in FIFA 08. Good to hear they're doing well.

You need to learn about consistency. Outside of Germany and Spain, all those teams you list routinely lose to average and/or weak countries. England do not. We only lose to the best. In fact, we have a winning record against every team in the world except Brazil and Italy. Consistency you see. Take a look at the link below and scroll back from 2012, damn impressive, right? Now do the same for the other countries you listed... I know it hurts, but look at the results, not your silly mindless media thumbsup.

England from a results standpoint is reminiscent of Wisconsin Basketball. Always winning the games it's supposed to and never beating anyone above their level. Truly something to crow about.

  • Rumors in Mexico have Giovani Dos Santos moving from Tottenham to Malaga for $7-8M USD.

He really needs to leave Tottenham if he ever wants to fulfill his potential... he was very good in La Liga a couple of seasons ago, so Malaga would probably be a good destination for him.

That's cool. I know what you mean when you refer to them as "small market" (relative to the wealthy European clubs), but they have a fan base of approximately 30,000,000 people.

I have several friend living in Sao Paulo and nearby cities. One of my best friends and her family support Sao Paulo FC and her mother supports Santos. However, they live in an area dominated by Corinthianos. Folks were setting off fireworks and playing music in the streets starting the in the morning on Tuesday. I talked to her yesterday and could barely hear her from the "fireworks" going off in the street, and this was before the game. She didn't think she would get any sleep that night if Timão won. haha

I support Sao Paulo, loosely because of them, but my team is actually a small club from the North. Probably won't ever see them advance very far in the Copa any time soon.

Watching the game last night reaffirmed my love for Brazilian football. The atmosphere in Itaquerão was absolutely nuts. People were rocking, singing, standing, dancing for the entire match. After if was all over you could see person after person literally crying of joy. I don't see that kind of passion, dedication anywhere else.

Anyway, here are the highlight vids (the first goal is awesome, very clever pass by Jorge and Danilo) and a couple vids from the Corinthiano nation which I found interesting to say the least.
