I searched and could not find an official gun thread on the board.
I am looking to buy my first gun, but don't know what i should look to buy. I have shot a few pistols but thats about it. I am looking for something that looks pretty cool, something you can accessorize, is fun to shoot, and wont break the bank. A couple of people have suggested a pump action 12 gauge with the pistol grip (like the picture below).
Any suggestion on type, make, etc would be great.

a 12 gauge was my first gun...definitely a cool purchase, but not the best thing to go out and shoot at the range...you get beat up pretty quickly.
if you are looking for a rifle and not a pistol, I'd say go with one of the M16/M4 variants. the customization choices are endless.

well, if you really want it, a 12ga is in your range....but I'm telling you, you are gonna be bored with it.
maybe save a little and get something cooler?

Ruger 10/22.
Good resale value if you get bored.
Quality gun to learn safety/maintenance /care/marksmanship on
Cheap ammo (500 rnds for $20)
Fun to take the family /friends to a range or out on a farm.
Easily under $300 scoped.
The 10/22 is to shooting what the Pentax K1000 was to photography

Mossberg 500 would be my choice in that price range. Plenty of accessories available for it. I had one in 20 gauge that I really liked, but I traded it in a few years ago for a semi-auto Charles Daley 20 gauge.

Buying an AR and an AK47 this weekend. Guns are like Frito Lays, you can never get just one, without getting more and more!

I have a Walther P-88. Its a great gun......smooth action.......ridiculous accuracy......and fun to shoot.

Why a 40....I'd go with a Springfield XD .45 ACP. I have that gun and it's like sex every time I go to the range with it. If you are serious about having fun shooting and protecting your family thats the one. For the wife I'd get a shotgun, she likely is not going to put the time in to go to the range, and if it is for home defense all she has to do is fire in the general vicinity.

The Glock, Smith & Wesson M&P, and Springfield XDm are all fine polymer 9's. See which one fits her hands best and go from there. Assuming you're looking at the Gen 4 Glock, all should have adjustable back straps to help her find something that's comfortable.
If you're on a budget, the Ruger SR9 isn't bad, either.

Already have a Winchester behind the bedroom door.
I've looked around, but since the elections are over it's tune to get a couple.

Does that Ruger have that floating barrel? I've seen it in a few Rugers and not sure if i like that.
