  • And since I put a decent round on here last time, I suppose I'll post my shitty 80 last Thursday.

  • Just shot my best round.

83 at Twin Eagle in Naples, the Eagle course from the III tees. 42 on the front and 41 on the back.

Just got my clubs regripped, it is like using a new set.

  • Last Saturday: 80. 38 on front, 42 on back. Walking no less. First round of the year for me (been busy).

  • 48 last Friday. It's my second season playing. I'm getting in the 40s for 9 more frequently but usually end up with low 100s for 18.

    KamState

  • 98 at College Fields this morning. Didn't hit it very well but I wasn't as terrible around the green.

  • Shot a 50 from the tips at Holiday Meadows. Plays 3513 yards. Back to back 8s and a ball in the water on #7 really stung.

I usually shoot mid to high 40s. Quitting my job Friday and taking the summer off before Physician Assistant school starts in August. I would like to take a few strokes off my game and get my handicap to 15. When I played in HS (before breaking my forearm) I was under a 20 handicap. Played less than 10 rounds the last 2 summers combined.

Hopefully this thread will document my improvement as a golfer this summer.

  • just got back from the yearly up north trip. we went to boyne this year and played the monument, the donald ross memorial, the hills and the heather. Some of the prettiest golf holes I've ever seen. I shot 66,72,74,70 but I'm 24 and the group is a bunch of older guys and we play from ~6000 yards so it's nothing special. never hit driver and always have less than a 9 iron in on par 4's and the par 5's are always around 5 or 6 iron. missed qualifying for the michigan amateur in a playoff 2 weeks ago for the 2nd straight year

The Ross course is a bitch ain't it?

Loved the Arthur Hills course when I was there last year.

  • Mid-week day off and great weather, you know what that means, lots'o'golf

Shot a 92 from the tips at Oak Lane out in Webberville this morning including my first 2 birdies of the season). My buddy shot his best round of the year 77 (par 70). First time on that course, I liked it a lot.

Went around twice at Woodside this evening, the second time around was free because we were behind a woman's league the first 9 and the starter felt bad for us (My God were they awful).

Went 47 - 48. Hit the ball like shit but I putted really well (for me, 17 - 18). I switched to a much softer putter that I picked up a couple of years ago at a garage sale and forgot about. Also starting to dial in my wedges which made for a couple of easy 1 putts

  • Just got back from our annual golf trip at Boyne. We played the Hills, the Ross, Moor, Bay Harbor (Links/Quarry), and finished at Little Traverse. Shot 85, 81, 83, 82 and 77.

Noticed another group with some young stud hitting five irons off the tee and the older guys were complaining at breakfast about him playing from 6000 yards and winning all the skins.

Oak Lane is a fun and deceptively challenging course and boy has it ever grown up. The trees that were babies when I first started playing there ( early 80s) are now full-blown obstacles.

Like I said. I liked it a lot. You can tell it is an older course because of the mature trees and it is designed well because so many of them come into play. It seemed like every dog leg had a large landing area but if you wanted a good shot at the green you had a very limited window.

There were also a couple of holes that playing from the blacks totally changed how you have to approach it, not because of distance but because of the angle. That was fun, definitely on my "play again" list.

And it's affordable. Love Oak Lane.

i couldn't even imagine having to play it from the very back tees. the arthur hills is one of my favorite courses in michigan, really pretty and very playable

where did you guys stay at? we stayed at the bartley house and it was hotter than hell in there and the AC in the rooms did nothing. then we went to dinner sat night and some group of about 10-12 guys next to us had the worst time i've ever seen with service at the restaurant in the main lodge and our group of 5 wasn't much better. we sat down after them and we were there for an hour plus and we left before they even had their food. i really wasn't impressed with anything up there this year other than the golf(which was awesome)

They also have some of the best greens you'll ever play for that price. Last time I played there (2 years ago) their greens were damn near tour quality as far as speed, smoothness and overall appearance go. They don't have a lot of slopes or contours on them, but they sure putt great.

I've pretty much have 'retired' from playing golf, but some friends have been bugging us to start playing again - I'm sure we'll go to Oak Lane.

you should've quit when you started birdie birdie on the first two holes a few years ago at Chemung.

Our group stayed in the Bartley house also. We had the same experience last year at Boyne Slopeside. We ate at Teddy's at the front entrance and Side Door Saloon in Petoskey. Breakfast was OK but was overpriced each morning but it was easy in and out.

Did you pay $5.50 for a can of beer (imported)?

  • Subbed in my buddies league last night, one under 35 at the Legacy in Ottawa Lake, MI. Left about 3 on the course.
