i'm struggling to remember the last time I was this frustrated by a playoff series....it's been years. We should be up 3-1 based on how we've outplayed them. an it's not refs....it's just the fickle hockey gods having yet another laugh at the Wings' expense. fucking frustrating as hell.

The Wings are doing what they've done the past few years. They are being outskated and outworked and out-toughed in the playoffs. They get lax in front of their own net, which creates scoring opportunities for the opponent. That last sorry assed power play was ridiculous. We played 30 seconds behind our own net. I'm tired of being world beaters in January, then fading in April. IMO they need a good shake up. A good one.

I'm tired of them being too finesse they need to add some physical players and that probably won't happen until we get a new coach, it worked for awhile but now it's just not good enough to get the back to a Stanley Cup champion level team.

The Wings have been to 6 Stanley Cup Finals in the last 17 years winning 4 Cups. Are you really sick of his crap? Talk to any Toronto fan

This! MDS and all you other whinning bitch fans are pathetic! This team gives and all you do is look for a reason to bitch. I understand its The Cup or bust but seriously stick out your peacock chest and be a proud fan that has seen 21 straight playoff appearances and one of the finest defenseman ever to play the game. Obviously this team will get a shake up in the off season (for the better) so again smile. Don't be a d bag!

I wonder if Illitch has turned his attention to the Tigers. That guy doesn't have much time left.

Ilitch liked to go out and get a superstar player when his team was close to winning it all. The new NHL took that away from him and has made it less fun for him.

If you listen to him, he really enjoys being able to pick up a Fielder or a Cabrera like he can currently do with the Tigers much like he enjoyed picking up a Chelios, a Hull or a Hasek when he could do so with the Wings.

TOO finesse isn't working anymore we need to become more physical teams outmuscle The Wings and it's shown itself in this series.

Homer tried playing physical in front of the net and got called for more goalie interference penalties in the first 6 games of the year than most teams get called in an entire season. Goalie slides across the crease and initiates contact with Holmstrom's ass outside the crease, 2 minutes goalie interference and goal waived off. Homer gets shoved toward the goalie, 2 minutes goalie interference and goal waived off. Homer looks funny at a goalie, 2 minutes goalie interference and goal waived off.

When Nashville scored that second goal he looked back at Ian White and Howard with a look of like...WTF are you guys doing? Why White chased down the puck carrier towards the corner when there were already two Wings on him I will never understand and Jmmy looked horrible on that play too.

    Good luck moving Franzen's contract.

You may not like Franzen but he is a big guy that scored 29 goals and is known as a "playoff performer." I agree that he has been floating the last couple of years but it's not a bad contract. Someone would take that contract. Didn't Leino get a bigger contract than that?

I will say I hope that was not Lid's last home guy. I love Lids but he was pretty terrible last night. He was the primary problem on Nashville's second goal. If you watch the tape he was in perfect position to cut off Erat and for some reason never pivoted until it was too late. Then White and the other forward had to chase Erat in desperation, Howard has to slide to the short side (although he over did it) and Fil was too lax getting back (but with 3 guys deep he had reason to think the slot would be covered). No one likes to blame Lids because of how great he is and all that he has done (plus he is probably still injured) but that goal was mostly his fault IMO.

Disagree. white had no business skating into the corner as the 3rd helper.

Franzen's contract is borderline criminal and he isn't really a power forward, he is usually in the slot or outside. No one is taking that deal. Agreed on Nick, not his best game or series, but White was completely lost from the word go.

Obviously someone should have peeled off as you don't want 3 guys chasing one forward but someone has to chase him. White was initially covering the right wing (the forward most player) on that play at the blue line. Lids was alone and in perfect position to cut off Erat. Lids not only failed to cut him off but worst of all allowed Erat to take the middle rather than forcing him outside. White had to peel off his guy and then chase Lid's guy.

As I saw the play unfold I could not believe my eyes. Lids (the most fundamentally sound D man ever) made a fundamental mistake in coverage. He must have thought the 3rd man (a forward, I don't remember who) was taking Erat but that was a huge error as that forward was already trailing Erat plus Lids is the dman. Lids must be hurting because that was a terrible play on his part and pretty much cost the Wings the game.

Again, I love Lids and he deserves more slack than any other player in the league.

  • For the first time in this series, I thought the Red Wings hit the game last night with the right intensity and the right idea offensively - get the puck in-close, try to ugly a goal, etc. It just didn't work as Rinne was outstanding, the defense did a good job of clearing loose pucks, and their offense, as always, was opportunistic. Nashville deserved to win, and at 3-1, they've a clear upper hand.

To the second goal, three guys chasing and a goalie overplays the threat, allowing two Predators to come in completely unmarked. There's no way to spin that as anything other than four games needing to make a better decision with better communication. And in that kind of game, in this kind of series, such a mistake is going to hurt. It's a little lesson about the pressure of playoffs and it's true for any sport. That it's so out of character for the fundamentally sound Wings is what's surprising.

I'd be surprised if this series sees Detroit again, but every game has been extremely close, and it really swings now on how Detroit comes out mentally. We'll see.....

we probably wont get an admission from franzen until he hangs up the skates, but a part of me really thinks he never got back to the way he was after the ACL repair. unfortunately, injuries are a part of hockey.

Which one? It's happened like 3x in the last 5 years.

really? 3 times???? im talking about the time he injured the ACL early at the start of the season and missed 4-5 months. was that 3 years ago?

The bad one was in 09' and here's an article from 08' discussing some other minor ones.

what are maltby and mcCarty doing tomorrow night lolcry

Great article especially since it talks about Quincey's play as new member of the LA Kings.
