  • Plans are in the works for a Nov. 26 HBO tripleheader to take place in Cincinnati, the hometown of junior lightweight contender Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KOs). Golden Boy hopes to match the 22-year-old Broner, a mandatory challenger, with 130-pound titlist Ricky Burns (32-2, 9 KOs) of Scotland, according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer ...

Schaefer said that for the other two televised bouts he and HBO are targeting heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell and featherweight prospect Gary Russell Jr. (18-0, 10 KOs), who rolled past Leonilo Miranda for a shutout eight-round decision in his HBO debut on Sept. 3. Broner, Mitchell and Russell are all in adviser Al Haymon's stable. Before the proposed November HBO appearance, Mitchell (22-0-1, 16 KOs), 29, of Brandywine, Md., has to win his Sept. 16 main event that will air live simultaneously on Spanish-language Telefutura and English-language Fox Sports Net from the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas. Mitchell now has an opponent for the evening. He will face Hector Ferreyro (21-10-2, 12 KOs) of Laredo, Texas, in a scheduled 10-rounder on the eve of the Mayweather-Ortiz HBO PPV fight that Golden Boy is promoting at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mitchell was supposed to open an HBO card against Mike Mollo on Aug. 27, but when headliner Robert Guerrero suffered a shoulder injury, the card was canceled.

BTW, has he always had the #48 on his shorts (I know he had SPARTAN on the back). I don't his old number being there when his fight was on Showtime a few months back. Though there wasn't much time to notice before that fight was over. lol

They are having trouble getting quality opponents for Seth as the competition has taken notice of his power and developing skill. At some point soon he will become a contender and get some shots at some of the less regarded "belts" and people will be forced to fight him. If he has a good showing on HBO look out.

  • Mitchell was all over Ferreyro from the outset as even the first jab of the fight knocked Ferreyro back on his heels. Mitchell battered his foe all over the ring in round two. After a good round two for Mitchell, He came out hard in round three had him reeling all over the ring with rights and lefts. Ferreyro’s right eye was swollen badly and then he was rocked to where he was draped over the top rope and referee Robert Byrd ruled a knockdown. Mitchell then jumped on a helpless Ferreyro and the fight was stopped under an onslaught in the corner at 2:17 of round three.

  • FYI, Seth Mitchell is a BEAST!
He's also featured in an article on MLIVE and I believe FREEP as of recently. They basically talk about his unfortunate HBO undercard cancellation (before he kicked the crap out of Hector Ferro-it-doesn't-matter) but it's worth the read.
I can't wait to see who he's got next! Kevin Johnson wants to get knocked the fuck out!

I like how Mitchell accepted the Ferreyro punches and went into boxing mode. I sense that Mitchell welcomed a full round fight, but was happy to exert his will on the guy.

Do you think he has the right trainers to get him to the next level?

    tVargMan Prime

  • Well I think he is in a good position with his personnel right now and really shouldn't consider replacing anyone.
He's comfortable with his trainer and they have great chemistry, good game plans, and productive adjustments between rounds.
Only time will tell if he needs a more established trainer but I would say no. Sometimes that can be a mental distraction if a guy thinks he needs an edge or a name in his corner. I like what I see and hope they can become famous together.
