I love the supreme lift. Catherine's area is fun. My only issue is that my ft take a while to warm up and kind of work some of the pain out before I can skin out to anything. The locals typically got it by the time I was ready to get out to it. The good news with Alta though is that on a powder day you can just lap that huge bowl with the cirque and rollers off of sugarloaf all am if you need to like I do. Alta is the shizz IMHO.

My favorite ski resort is usually the one I happen to be skiing at the time but given the choice I will always go to Alta.

Moments of Regret: A Monumental Snowboard Beatdown

Oh, my. There are crashes and then there are crashes — from the perspective of the helmetcam, at least, this is one of the nastiest, ragdolling, stone-grinding dumpers youll ever see — a major tumble over a series of cliffy

I hadn't been to Cannonsburg in years. Surprised that they turned so much of it into a terrain park. Was having a good time on the board though ... until i took a nasty spill and broke my wrist.

Done for the year now. no

(worst part ... golf season is delayed now)

  • Took vietnamese daughter skiing on MSU spring break. Left last Friday about 1pm and drove straight to Park City and we're on the slopes by 12:30pm. Did Alta (shocking), The Canyons and Snowbasin then drove up to Big Sky for 2 days.
Nice 27 hr drive home after skiing Friday. Freezing rain/snow all through I-94 through the Dakota's. Nice night to lose another hour of sleep.
Will be leaving the 28th for Utah again. Should get another 6-7 days of skiing in before the end of the season.

I'm not sure what they were using that day. He gave the GoPro to his brother. He sometimes films on his 35mm to a card.
He has a couple of friends that are starting to do this professionally.

  • Hit Vail again Saturday until about 12:45 so we could watch the MSU-Memphis game. Hit 18.5k vertical from 9 - 12:45, which is pretty good. Over 240k vertical for the season, not counting the 4 days I've went to A-basin. Saturday was a powder day (11" the day before, 2" overnight and snowed all day while we were there) but the season is coming to a close. Only a few more weeks. 21 days in so far this season, probably get a few more in and then a few beach parties at A-basin.

Anyone else still riding? Or all done for the season?

  • Bump. Sunday was closing day at Vail (but yesterday they just announced that they and Breck will be open again this coming weekend).

13" snowed Saturday night, so Sunday was pretty damn glorious for closing day. Party on top with at least 500 people, tons of them dressed up and drinking/smoking/partying.

Got 23 days in this season I think, and might try to get another few at A-basin of which they are hoping to to stay open until almost June.

Anyone else still riding? Rode recently? Done with it for the season?

    Le Flama Blanca

  • I got back from Vail on 8 April, just before some of the dumps. It was very good but not great the 5 days previous, OK over around lifts 10 & 11 but heavy and sticky once halfway down Born Free to get back to Lionshead. Blue Sky was great the whole time. I logged 28 days including 9 in December which isn't bad coming from the Beltway to get it done. I definitely got a lot out of my Epci pass. I wish I was able to get out there this weekend.

Flew in and out of Salt Lake City twice last week, I was surprised at how much snow is all around there in the mountains still. Even further east there seemed to be a good "pack" of snow on most of the mountains, I am sure the back country dudes will still be messing around for a while up there.

Yea, a few winter storms have rolled through in the last week or two, helping the snow pack significantly. Vail alone had 30" in 5 days, including 24" on Sunday and Monday combined. Partly the reason they are opening back up next weekend. Utah normally gets more snow out of the same storm systems (I think).

Good for CO and some of the plains states, as the snow pack is integral to the water required for people/farming.

So are you going to be on the front side of Vail tomorrow? Another 6" last night. And it's stayed cold. You should have an insane day if you make it. I know a guy that's just going to stop at Breck when he drives up but Vail looks better, no? Need some pics if you go!

  • My son finished his internship at Big Sky and the resort is now closed. Thought he was coming home but he headed to Brighton UT to
ski another week or snow. They got about 30" of snow.

  • The last couple weeks have been the best weeks of the year in Colorado. Too bad nearly all the resorts planned to close after last weekend. I bet they are kicking themselves. At least a few resorts are staying open. And the backcountry is always open.

  • Careful out there Colorado peeps...6 backcountry avalanche deaths this week alone. Forecasters are saying these are the worst conditions in 30 years for danger.

The five deaths today at Loveland Pass make that avalanche one of the most deadly in history out here.

The deadly one on Vail Pass last week had a 10' crown and snapped huge trees like twigs...some of the scariest pictures I have seen on a very popular run.
