Man, baseball has a bunch of wacky rules. Thanks for the correction.

There are wacky rules, but I wouldn't consider that wacky. At a certain point (5 years), you just can't send a player down to the minors.

I thought they should have left Raburn down in AAA though until he proved he should be back.

  • The Marlins' Anibal Sanchez was being scouting today by the Tigers and Red Sox, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Sanchez took the loss against the Pirates but was impressive striking out eight while allowing only three runs in seven innings.

Evidently Raburn is circumvented by a whole other set of rules, the first of course, is the one where he hot tubs with Leyland after every game and studies marine biology.

Nah, I can see keeping Raburn on the team before keeping Kelly. I guess I always look at a player's ceiling and Raburn has proven that his ceiling is high. If he could even get back to 80% of last year's second half (.341 BA, .393 OBP, .574 SLG). I know that Kelly is a decent defender, but there has got to be better options.

  • I would love if the Tigers could get Shields and a 2B at the deadline.

TB has a smart GM so I don't know how much it would take to get him, but I know they want C prospects and the Tigers have 2 pretty good ones.

Let him look for his ceiling in Toledo.
200 wasted AB's this year so far.
    Bring him back in September.

Disagree. Any option after 7 years is better than Raburn. And Kelly provided a nice spark in the playoffs, and he does defend well. Raburn at least is consistent, bad at the plate(except for Aug)and in the field, sans the arm.

Agree (that's why I said they should have left him in Toledo).

Don't get me wrong, he is starting where where out his welcome with me as well. I just think Kelly needs to go first.

Raburn provided the spark for the whole 2nd half.

Heck, I would seriously consider claiming Lillibridge and dropping Kelly.

That makes sense, but it's something that I thought would be applied at the end of the season instead of the day that you get 5 years.

When raburn first came back up he looked like maybe he had turned the corner. About 10 solid days then right back into the shitter

Meh, I don't think so on either point. When I reflect on the second half surge, I immediately think of the starting pitching, primarily Verlander and Fister, the addition of Young, and the steady hitting of six starters in the lineup.(Boesch,Cabrera,Victor,Peralta,Avila,Young/Mags) And the wonderful surprise of Al Alburquerque.
Your infatuation with Raburn is quite disturbing.

2011 Raburn post All Star break - .341BA, .967 OPS, 2nd best OPS on Tigers behind Cabrera post All Star game

2010 Raburn post All Star break - .315BA, .900 OPS

2009 Raburn after All Star break - .310BA, .933 OPS

Deal indeed done: Dempster to #Braves. No word on financial terms or players involved. @mlbbowman reporting Delgado could be part.

i have a friendly wager with a coworker that raburn doesnt hit any better than .275 the second half of 2012 *IF* he stays on the roster.

that being said, i hope im wrong and all of the struggling hitters turn it around and have better second halves.

I hope you're wrong also, but even as a big supporter of Raburn, I don't think you're going to lose that bet this year.

Sounds like Delgado is. Even better deal since Dempster has already said he would like to go back to the Cubs next year. Glad the Tigers didnt get him.

Infatuation? Puhlease. By all means, I'm getting tired of seeing him in the lineup and have even stated that they should have kept him in Toledo.

IMHO, I'd still give him about three more weeks.

My ONLY point was that I'd get rid of Kelly WAY before Raburn.

  • Looks like the Cubs arent done yet....

The Cubs and Dodgers are discussing a trade that would send Matt Garza to Los Angeles for a package of players including highly-regarded pitching prospect Zach Lee, Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network reports (on Twitter).

I wouldnt be surprised to see the Tigers move on Shields/Sanchez quickly. The dominoes are starting to fall, and they dont want to be shut out of the guys they want.

And Santiago is batting .100 post all-star.
