I know stamkos is damn good... i wouldn't take him over Toews but I'm biased.
But my point was that those communities don't give a shit about their team unless they're winning awesome and/or winning a cup. That's why i specifically mentioned Tampa...who currently is #18 in the league (hawks are #1 again despite being #8 in the west). But you can bet that if the Lightning make it to the conf finals, their fans will be all over it, and they'll forget about the team as soon as they're bounced.
Looking again, the lightning, at #18, are the highest ranked southern team based on attendance. (I didn't count the Kings as southern).
