tOfficial tournament Izzo doesn't care about bracket

Am I crazy? I think MSU has an easier path to the championship game than Indiana.

I would rather play Iowa/ NW than Illinois/Minnesota. Also Indiana could face Wisconsin which is never enjoyable. OSU is good but as good as Michigan? Hmmmm.

  • Difference is that Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin have all been stone cold over the last two weeks. Iowa is actually on a bit of a hot streak.

ya pretty much this. I hate playing Northwestern as they seem to give us fits every time. Iowa has been playing well lately. If we win that game we'd likely get a rematch with OSU. Could be interesting as those games have been good ones the last few years. It'll be an interesting tournament for sure.

The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.

  • OSU is really hot right now too. Top half of the bracket has far more tournament bound teams, but the hotter playing teams are in the bottom half.

Didn't MSU beat Iowa in Iowa without much of a problem? Also beat them at MSU?

Minnesota and illinois are scary. In a tournament single knockout game I would rather play a team which hasn't really beaten anyone and has less talent than a team which has more talent but are more inconsistent. Illinois has beaten some good teams this year: Gonzaga @Gonzaga and Indiana at home. Minnesota beat MSU and Indiana at home.

OSU is good especially now that craft is playing better. Michigan and OSU are pretty equal although OSU is hotter.

  • You're misremembering. We only played @Iowa, and we squeaked out the win back in January. And they had one of their best players out for the game.

We're playing much better than we were in January, but so is Iowa. I do not consider this game a gimme, these guys are playing well and desperate for a scalp or two to make a case for making the dance.

  • I'll be really bummed if we don't make the final. Iowa and OSU may be hot, but I think we are much, much better than both of them.

    PortlandSpartan

  • Iowa has been playing much better lately, and needs at least one more marquee win (win over MSU would do that) to get on the right side of the bubble.

It will not be an easy one. I think OSU has the easiest quarterfinal game, as Purdue/Neb will be a cakewalk game.

Little correction on this. Izzo only cares about the BTT when we do well in it. The RCMB has taught me that over the years.

I guess we will see. None of those three teams can really win games on the road. Iowa has only beaten two big ten teams on the road all year PSU and NW.

Iowa beats people up and teams aren't used to their style of physical play. MSU can play that way and I prefer that to small teams like Illinois and Minnesota who can run and have better more athletic backcourts.

  • I'm gonna say Minny or Illini knock off Indiana. Both Minn and Ill are playing for their tourney lives, and if one of them can beat IU (again) then they will be a lock. Plus I think IU thinks they already have a #1 seed locked up and nothing to play for in Chicago.

Minny hasn't can't beat anyone if they aren't playing at home. IU's biggest hurdle is michigan, but if they meet again, um would be playing its 3rd game in as many days.

OSU has probably been playing the best of anyone for the last 2-3 weeks. There will be some upsets. but not of the top 3 seeds, I think it will be IU v. MSU/OSU winner for the title.

  • Very confused on why is Michigan still ahead of MSU and OSU in Joe Lunardi's bracketology. Just proves how much he understands the game of basketball. Michigan is no way a 2 seed team. Hell they could be the Missouri of last year!

It hasn't been updated since Friday. I'll be curious to see if things move around when he posts his next update

I agree. I think they're playing as well as anyone right now. They absolutely took it to Indiana last week. It used to be you could let Thomas have his as long as you kept everyone else under control. Now some of the role players at OSU are starting to score more and be more of a threat. They're a much better team than they were back in December.

I think MSU is definitely able to beat them and I'd expect them to win that game, but it's no cake walk by any means

  • PSU is even a tough out right now... I have no fucking idea how we gave NU a breath let alone a legit shot to win that game.

Oh yeah I do... Over helping and offensive droughts... just like always.

MSU still won by double digits in a game that didn't mean much. I wouldn't read much into that game at all.

They have the easiest road if you ask me. I don't think we've played well in the United Center since 2000.

Obviously MSU can play like a Final Four team or a first round flop so that's not an easy game but I'd much rather play either of their first day games than Iowa and they seemed to have us figured out pretty well in the recent game in Columbus. It seems we can't focus on Thomas and pay enough attention to Craft to slow his penetration.

I will say though that Trice and Dawson and Appling (just playing his B game) are the wild cards. If Trice plays really well MSU is a legit threat to win it all because then teams can't pack it in, or will pay a huge price.

Playing defense against the Northwestern offense has always given Nix trouble. Guys were blowing by him, or a couple times he got in the way of our own guy staying with a player. I think we will see more offense/defense rotation between he and Costello in the upcoming games.

Just like we won in double digits in all the tournament games but the last 5 were all very very close or deficits in the 2nd half in our 2000 title run.

Due to FTs the final margin is often quite misleading.

We were also playing a shit team which lost 7 straight games, was giving up FORTY PERCENT of their opponents misses back to them on offensive boards, that outrebounded us for long stretches if not overall... let's not slather the green 'let down' paint all over that one right away... umm kay?

We need to stop closing out the first half like dogshit. It's the only reason that game was close, and I believe the reason we didn't get it done in Ann Arbor.

Fully agree. He's a giant liability on screen roll defense and the 'princeton' type action for sure. Kind of like Shaq was at the end.
