Sean - This kid loves the Spartans & that's a great thing for us. I'm curious though if he has any connections to us, or in the state of Michigan. I don't recall any other recruit from outside of Michigan that was as high on being a Spartan as this kid is.

Its a wonderful thing, but at MSU we just don't see it very often.

This is the guy that I have been most excited about. Probably helped out a lot with the love he was giving the Spartans b4 he ever stepped on campus. I really hope he feels like a little kid in a candy store on campus today!

  • has to be very interesting to see him and Norfleet go at it.

  • He is still @ MSU touring the campus I guess with couple of coaches. Says he has loved every single thing about it and a decision could be coming up in the future. If we get him though we don't get Madaris I bet or Burbridge. Kinda frustrating getting Kerrick and Kings and not getting the 4 star better kids. I know you can't wait in case you get burned, but just venting. O well, he hopefully is good seems small to me.

Kings has a commitable offer from Florida State. That's good enough for me.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Yea, I really like this kid. I think he is a talent just from the tape.

  • I would think the staff would take kings as a slot and either madaris or burbridge etc, but as learned from this years RB recruitment you never know what the staff really has in mind

Who says getting Kings has an impact on Madaris or Burbridge? No one but you. Kings looks really good, by the way.

  • Kid seems to be extremely excited to be a spartan and I think that is important and really cool. I hope a commitment is soon.

I am not actually sure what got a Florida kid so thrilled with an MSU offer despite no apparent connection....well, I personally can see why he would be so thrilledspartan2 but i am curious as to why he seems so enthralled with us. But i really love his attitude.

let me ask all you guys this.. Would you rather have Monty Madaris or Kings jr? Would you rather have burbridge or kings jr? There is 15 kings jr type slot wr's out there with speed IMO. I've seen the tape kid is a talent there is just so many players like that everywhere. Madaris is such a crisp route runner with exact same speed and more size. It's really not even close who the staff would rather have.

They're not even being recruited for the same spot so that's an apples to oranges question.

Kings is an all-around athlete that would be used primarily at the slot WR position, he fits into our offense like Keshawn Martin. He could potentially be a PR/KR, and also be used in end-arounds and other trick offense plays.

Monty Madaris is a tall, fast, route-runner that fits in as a Bennie Fowler type of player. He's a go-to receiver and can be used as an outside vertical threat. He's a "true" WR.

The staff would take both, and I want both.

If the Staff wants both Im fine with that then, but if this is it I will be deeply disapointted with such a dire need to get 2 average prospects rating wise. Maybe kerrick could move positions. Kinda wished we didn't get him. Then I would really wants Kings and be happy. Don't think we should have offered him so early. he woulda came way later he had hardly any offers. WVU and Pitt is not a good offer list and we are way better programs than them so feel like we coulda waited.

It's incredibly hard to actually comprehend what the fuck you're trying to say. Not sure if troll in any case.

Ratings don't amount to jack shit unless you're a 5-star stud. Ask 2-stars Joel Foreman, Kirk Cousins, Le'Veon Bell, and Trenton Robinson and 3-stars Greg Jones and Jerel Worthy.

Oh yeah, and arguably the best DE in the Big Ten last year, who was a 2-star TE: JJ Watt.

if ratings don't matter, why did everyone on this board pop a nut when Pittman committed?

  • just asked a ? it's cool you dont have to answer. I don't care. Everyone always brings up the 3 stars that pan out, but people never wanna bring up the ones that don't. has Baker panned out? no need to get in arguement over it. is what it is I trust the staff either way.

Cause he's a flat out stud. There's not a huge difference between most high 3-stars and 4-stars, it ultimately comes down to coaching and player development.

Pittman, Gholston, and LT are the type of prospects that are just complete game changers. They have freak talent and athletic ability that can just completely take over a game.

Ratings are not necessarily accurate. Watch Nick Tompkins' tape of decimating Georgia 5-A competition and tell me he's a 3-star.

Baker was a 4-star, and yes he has panned out.

My point is, Dantonio and staff have done a remarkable job of picking out prospects that fit the system and can be coached up into good players. Did most people think 2-stars Le'Veon Bell and Darqueze Dennard would be starting as true freshman? Both did, and did a great job.

If you've actually watched tape of Kings, Kerrick, Tompkins, etc, you'll know that all of these guys are excellent players. If Dantonio thinks they're solid, then I think they're solid. If Dantonio thinks they can be coached up, then I agree. Bottom line is, he's been picking excellent talent. If you're suggesting we only offer 4 and 5 stars, then we'll be getting classes of 3 recruits. You have to find players that 1) Fit the system and 2) Can be coached up to the max of their ability.

Dantonio has proven he can find/make solid players out of overlooked recruits on a regular basis. I see no reason to doubt him here.

  • Oh tompkins is no way a 3 star i seriously am @ a loss of words on that one. I mean isn't that just a joke he should be @ a minimum a top 247 player in the mid 150 range. How did they miss that bad on him? I get what your saying, but you gotta understand my view to I just think Madaris is more of a complete wr.

There is no doubt Madaris is a more complete WR. Which is why i'm saying that Kings and Madaris are NOT being recruited for the same position. Norfleet/Kings and Madaris/Burbridge are a better comparison.

Plus, we graduate 4 scholarship WRs and lost one to transfer. We have Kerrick in this class, we'll take 2-3 for sure. There's room for Madaris and Kings. There's even a chance we might take either Shepard or Burbridge on top of those two.

Last time now, what information do you have to show that there's one spot for Kings and Madaris? There has been absolutely no indication of that. Why must you use the Kings thread to talk about Madaris? If you want to talk generally about MSU WR recruiting, take it to the 2012 thread. As of now, you're doing nothing but making up an either/or scenario so you can essentially speak negatively about Kings, the subject of this thread.

    Achtung Baby

  • than i stand corrected, didn't know that, my bad Macks. never thought norfleet was coming here rather have kings jr who really wants to come here,

    smitty29

  • Ahem,

Keep it on Kings, a kid from Florida who has no connection to MSU, who really wants to go here. Take a second and realize how rare that is. We want to build a pipeline to that state? There's a heck of a start. The kid has an offer from an in-state power (FSU), a coaching staff that has recruited as well as any. I think that says enough about his talent.

We need returners after this year, and Kings can certainly provide that. He'll be a true frosh in Fowler's RS Jr year, and we could use a burner to go along with Sims. I think we saw last year that it wasn't wise to use a primary WR (Martin) as a KR AND PR, so if we keep a few returners on the roster, I'm o.k. with that. Keeps our downfield threats healthy AND doesn't wear out their legs.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • Per Sean, looks like we have a solid shot of landing Kings soon, he really loved his visit.

Also, WE know that he's being recruited as an ATH/WR, but Madaris may not. It might influence him to pull the trigger as well.

    Macks

  • he's hanging with some of the players tonight. i guess i'm not really going out on a limb by saying that a commitment in the next 24 hours is probable.
