'12 MI WR Aaron Burbridge is a Spartan! (Signed MSU LOI)

If Burbridge truly wants to be a Spartan, and doesn't qualify for a scholarship, he should just pay his own way for a year.

he will have to go the JUCO route to raise his grades anyways if he cant get a scholarship. you want him playing football on some level over sitting out a year. cough, Mike Williams, cough.

No, he can pay his own way for a year and walk-on. Being away from the program will put him at a serious disadvantage while also risking potential injury in JUCO.

  • He still has time. I think they will find a way.

  • My question is how does the Farmington Hills Public School system pass a kid all the way to senior year (which is really supposed to be the easiest in HS) and then have the kid flunking out from the start of the year?

    Just seems crazy.

There is risk with anything...walking down the street.... JC/Prep School may be what he needs???

Does he get admitted if he cant pass the clearinghouse? I don't know if the clearinghouse has changed from when I went through it but from what I remember it was pretty easy to get through that. What I'm saying is the standards for being admitted to MSU are a good bit higher than it is to just pass the clearinghouse, unless he gets special consideration to be admitted.

Also I believe the SEC protocol is if a kid can't qualify you help him get into a JC and check on him throughout his time there and hope to get him back after his time there.

A poster on the victors board, and one on the UM Rivals board, is saying that SpartanMag/Dorsey made a post saying Burbridge wasn't going to qualify. I'm skeptical- just looking at the MSU board, I don't see anything in the subject headings.

He has a qualifying ACT score, but doesn't have the grades on the sliding scale. He's in his last tri-mester, so he has a slight chance at raising his GPA. He's going to retake the ACT and hope to get a better score, so that his grades don't have to improve as much. The chance is described as "slim".

Can we end the speculation now? No one will know for sure for another 6-8 weeks.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • I am just glad Arnett fell into our lap. Having a couple 4 stars in Arnett and Madaris will ease the loss of Burbridge if he doesnt make it.

Anything changed in the last nine minutes Rocky?

Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.

There is no minimum to be accepted as a student. All he has to do is take the ACT and graduate from HS. You do need to meet certain requirements to receive an athletic scholarship though.

  • I'm assuming there is some kind of academic requirement to be a student athlete though, scholarship or not.

Keep your grades up once you get here, and you are fine. He would probably benefit from a RS where he can walk-on, and concentrate on getting used to the academic demands too. JUCO classes are a joke. Plus he would probably be living at home picking up even more bad habits. Get him to State where he has to live a more structured and demanding lifestyle.

So you are proposing that he pay tuition for an year as a walk on?

I think he's asking if he'll get accepted into MSU. If he doesn't have the grades for the clearinghouse, he won't have the grades to be admitted as regular MSU student. The question is does he get the special consideration as a non-scholarship athlete.

  • How did Charles Rogers get in? He was a freshman that couldn't play, but played as a sophomore. Someone mentioned earlier that he could do that and get that year of eligibility back if he graduated in four years, is this not true?

I believe the loophole he used is no longer there.

GRCC dissolved their football program, I think.

If you don't academically qualify out of high school, then you have to go to juco for at least 3 semesters (not including summer classes), graduate their 2-yr program, have 48 transferable credits (including 6 english and 3 math), and get at least a 2.000 GPA in those transferable credits.

    I didn't know that.

This whole situation doesn't sound like it will end well. If he goes the JUCO route I don't think Dantonio will want him after two years. I don't see that being an option. I can't believe they didn't get him a tutor after his freshman year. This could of been avoided.

  • Another option would be to go to prep school for one year and be recruited in class of 2013.

Why wouldn't Coach D want him later? We were apparently still recruiting Smith after he ended up at grcc.
