'12 OH QB Tyler O'Connor is a Spartan! (Signed MSU LOI)

  • Oh man that stinks. My brother's team was going to play them next week I am pretty sure. I was pumped to watch him!

  • Yeah it was a pretty big upset as LCC was ranked number one in the state and had not been tested since week one. LB is good though as they were runner-up in the conference this year. Final stats where 18-32 for 291 yards and 4 ints that proved costly.

  • Per Rexrode: "Incoming MSU recruit Tyler O'Connor completed 18 of 33 passes for 243 yards, 2 TDs, no picks for the South in the Ohio North-South Classic."

  • This All star game is on TV here where I live, and let me say, O'Conner is one of the best players on the field. Just about everyone in this game is going on to play D1. O'Conner is big, shifty in the pocket with a big arm. He's throws a really nice ball and has a quick release. His first TD, which is the only one he's thrown so far, was awesome. Scrambles left, being chased by Stroebel I believe, turns back around and rifles it to a dig route over the middle. We've just started the second half and he's 3/3 - two out route bullets and a beautifully thrown fade for about a 50 yard gain. The North has some studs on defense too, they had a basically all Glenville secondary out there for a while.

A bunch of the guys traded helmet stickers, and Tyler's got a big green S right above his facemask on the front of his helmet, nice to see.

edit: the game is over now. O'Conner was the best QB in the game, although they kept talking about how Maty Mauk, a QB going to Mizzou, didn't play. O'Conner got sacked a couple of times, I don't know if his OL wasn't that good, but the North really did have some strong Dlinemen. O'Conner led a scoring drive with less than 3 minutes left, but they were down 11 at the time. He has got the arm to play right now. He throws a really nice deep ball, completed at least 4 20+ yard passes. His team threw a lot of swing passes, and he put hit them in stride every time. O'Conner did throw a pick, it was on a late scrambling 2pt conversion try, can't fault him for forcing it since they couldn't score. He also didn't play the whole game, but the offense was definetly better when he was in there and that was the only time he scored. The South really should have won, they were leading the North most of the game until they broke off an 88 yard run towards the middle of the 4th quarter. Our very own Evan Jones also got some PT for the south at DE, he almost had a sack.
