'12 OH WR Monty Madaris is a Spartan! (Signed MSU LOI)

Not true. MSU would accept his commitment with open arms. He did not try to commit to MSU when he visited last weekend. Trust me on this one.

CBD says he has a commitable offer. Sounds like he is torn between playing with his cousin at UC or going Green.

Then CBD may have info different from what I was just reading...

He has "connections" inside the program.

    ScottsBadLiver

  • There is talk that Madaris may take an unofficial visit to UC this weekend.
    Nothing confirmed yet. Just talk.

  • CBD - Could it been a situation of either Holtz or Madaris, and now with Holtz going to Pitt, Madaris will commit?

  • I am not sure he appreciates the offer. It seems like he is still dreaming of being a Buckeye. They clearly don't want him. He needs to go Green and prove them wrong.

If he doesn't want to be a Spartan he can go to Cincy and play on a Tuesday night against Holtz in a half empty stadium. The odds are pretty good that Jones or Pitts new coach will jump to a bigger school sooner rather than later.

No, The MSU staff was expecting Holtz to commit to Pitt.
Madaris has had a committable offer from MSU right along, no matter what Holtz's decision was going to be.

    CoachedByDuffy

  • I am so confused. How is there any debate here cbd? He's got a comitable offer from us and Cincy is still in the picture? We couldn't possibly have so little momentum we drop two recruits in a row to the big east.

  • whoops, posted in the wrong thread.

Anyways, would be cool to get Monty but i want to make sure we have room for JJ and Dodson if they choose to switch.

  • It looks like he has decided to take an official to Florida State this weekend.
Those sly dogs slow played him for the longest time and now have a legit shot at stealing him in the end.
His recruitment has just been absolutely awful to follow. I hope he commits soon (really to anyone at this point).

    Three things about this IMO:

    1) He is not really someone that we need to get. We got enough at WR in this class, including Arnett who was a consensus top 100 guy.

    2) If Madaris doesn't want to be a Spartan, oh well. He has not shown us a ton of love. Not that he has shown anyone love.... He is quiet about the process and making a decision privately. I respect that. He obviously wanted to be a Buckeye and everyone else is a distant second place.

    3) He might be worried about the WR competition at MSU. If Madaris goes green, and goes up against guys like Arnett and Burbridge, who are ranked much higher than him, and he loses the starting spot to them, there's a chance that he just sits for three years before he even gets significant playing time. He might not want to risk that. He might want more of a sure thing.

if he is worried about playing time and I would not blame him, Cincy is probably a better place than FSU for him. Ohio State will also have lots of good WRs so his risk of playing time there would be hurt also. If he were to commit before signing day and then Urban offered him the night before signing day do you think he would flip?

Because CBD is full of it here. Unless he has other sources than the legitimate recruiting experts saying that his commitable offer is contingent upon missing out on some guys, he's full of it. If he has those sources, i'd love to know why a random guy on a message board isn't getting paid to write articles and who those sources are.

People who are close to the program don't necessarily have the national recruiting radar available to them, and they can't really start being beat writers for info that is often off the record. That is why there are leakers and why there are reporters.

Exactly, and it's time to accept that more perspectives = more news. Obviously nothing is concrete.

This is not going to turn into a CBD bashing thread, but just so you know, the guy's one of the MSU mods on the Scout board. As such, he has access to their writers/insiders and passes the info along to us.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Pretty sure he's a contributor to Scout, so...

  • Monty Monty Monty -

Tough read all along. Here are a couple of thoughts.

1). Consensus is he wants to be a Buckeye and will hold off committing to the end. If this is the case I have great respect for not giving a verbal only to retract if OSU offers

2). Can't blame an uncommitted recruit for getting some Florida love. FSU's class is ranked near the top - has to be appealing

3). MSU - I am concerned why it seems we have been slow played. All indications are that we want this kid and have courted him throughout.
This may not be fair but I wonder if another team is discouraging him from accepting other BIG offers. Something to the effect we may or may not have room but if you commit elsewhere we are done. It seems
Blue was trying to get his time and was
    turned away.
If that is any way true I hope Monty gets the offer he seems to be holding out for. If he doesn't get the offer I am betting a team will wind up with a kid who had a Kalis like grudge.
Strange recruitment that feels like we are a likely a fallback position for him, assuming we keep a spot. He could be rolling the dice on this one as we may take the 2-3 who accept first. We have offers to great talent and I would be thrilled with any of the names discussed taking the last 2-3 spots. Also like the Georgia OT info today, their is always a couple of signing day or post signing days surprises.

FYI - I am just a hack with an uninformed opinion. Just my .02C as I don't want this kid to get bashed as he just seems to be
    slow-playing the process.

Hope Monty goes green but I feel this will be decided on NSD.

It seems like the kid is having a tough time deciding between the two programs and could accept at any time either way. CBD is a well respected poster here and is rarely inaccurate but also shows a great deal of restraint on posting rumors or misleading information. When he doesn't answer a question completely I am sure its because he doesn't want to cross a line with his connections.

In terms of Monty can we let this kid make his decision in due time and let the process work?

The coaching staff is hitting it hard and Monty has a tremendous opportunity as a student athelete to further himself at MSU or Cincy. We'd love to have him wear green but be respectful if he decides to play with his cousin.
