'12 OH WR Monty Madaris is a Spartan! (Signed MSU LOI)

  • NigelUno said...

Just like he knew he faxed in his LOI on Wednesday.

    By reading internet rumors.

The level that people go to, to try and present themselves as insiders is pretty hilarious.

Nope, i did read he faxed in his LOI off a rumor from Helmholdt, quoting his coach.

The other stuff was different, that's all I'll say, but i am done with this subject.

"I was a little frustrated at his inability to get his letter in on time."cryYou know that the was the FIRST DAY TO SIGN, RIGHT?

He already verbally committed. To not send in the LOI obviously means that something is wrong.

Watching his interviews...he comes off as a somewhat shy and introverted person.

Not showing up to school and pretending to be sick is something an introverted person would normally do when they are conflicted about something.

They tend to emotionally shut down.

    Am I right?

Or are you claiming Monty simply didn't know how to operate a fax machine?

Either way...I'm glad CBD cleared the air.

Thanks for your insight, Scoop. Make sure you remember all of us when you hit the big time.

  • In response to CoachedByDuffy's post on the back story:

I'm glad that this came out. I'm really going to be pulling for him to succeed, whether it's in football at MSU, or just in the classroom to set himself up for the rest of his life.

I didn't gas the kid on signing day, but I was pretty sure he wasn't coming to MSU, not based on any knowledge of the situation, just because I figured it smelled fishy and that was bad for MSU.

    Thanks for posting this CoachedByDuffy!

Here is some background on why Monty's recruitment lasted so long. Not necessarily in chronological order but I'll try not to be too random putting this together : Monty is basically a quiet kid and kind of shy. He is a very private person. He never felt comfortable with all the recruiting hype around him being a highly sought after prospect. When he didn't respond to all the calls from the recruiting services, the media types began to describe him as being aloof, unresponsive and uncommunicative. He had a summer job so he didn't respond to calls he received while at work. He wasn't able to attend very many summer camps because of his job. He did attend MSU's summer camp and enjoyed his camp experience at MSU and he liked the MSU coaching staff. He is fairly close with his cousin, Rodriguez Coleman. They had always talked about playing college ball together. Coleman was at UC last season but there was some ? whether Coleman would return to UC this season and Monty was waiting for that situation to play out. Coleman is returning to UC this season and that is what kept UC in the mix for Monty for so long. Monty did like MSU and the MSU coaching staff. The problem was his uncle and his guardian and his HS HC are big O$U fans and he was getting some bad advice from them. He was being told that he was too good a player to go to MSU and MSU wasn't good enough for him. He grew up as a O$U fan and that's the environment he was in, pro-O$U. They were telling him to wait for an O$U offer that was sure to come and not to commit or in some cases, to not even visit any other schools. That's one reason why his recruitment dragged on for so long because people around him were telling him to wait for an O$U offer. Monty is actually a high character kid. He pretty much put his recruitment on hold in the Fall and during his HS season to concentrate on helping his HS team (Cinci Moeller) to get to the state playoffs. He was actually sick to his stomach on NSD and didn't attend the signing event at his HS. Trying to come to grips with making one of the biggest decisions in his life that may disappoint the people around him who were giving him advice right along. That's why he just couldn't push the "Send" button on the Fax machine with his LOI already in it late that afternoon. The next morning he felt confident about his decision to come to MSU and Fax'd the LOI. That was a major step toward him becoming his own man. He has never had any real supportive people in his life and he really felt kind of alone in making one of the most important decisions of his life. Coming to MSU will be one of the most positive things that can happen in his life. He will become part of the Spartan Family. Being part of a family is a feeling he has seldom experienced. Coach D and the other coaches will be great mentors for him to learn from and he will know that he will always have family at MSU.

I'm sorry, but there's no way in hell Moeller's HC was speaking ill of MSU to Monty. MSU's staff and Moeller's coach have about as good of a relationship as you can get in athletic recruiting, considering MSU has taken three of his players, one of whom was a multi-year all-American and draft pick, and another who was a freshman all-American and future star. There was also an article directly quoting him on how pissed he was that Monty had not faxed in his LOI.

I think you missed the comments from the other day that the current HC at Moeller is a fairly recent hire and did not coach Rush and Jones...

Obviously, you have no clue about the soap opera conducted by the current Moeller HC.
The Moeller HC is a BS'er. He doesn't have that good a relationship with the MSU staff and that's a fact. He is a big-time O$U fan and also a UK fan.
He kept telling Monty to wait for an O$U offer. When that wasn't happening he tried to set up a visit to UK for Monty.
He did not coach Greg Jones and he only coached Marcus Rush for 2 years..

Darn. That's only one freshman all-American, a history of turning Moeller players into pure gold, and direct quotes about him being unhappy with Monty's waivering. I'm sure he totally hates us. Sorry, man, but I still don't buy it.

Don't really care whether you buy it or not, just don't try to bluster your way thru this with absolutely no knowledge of the situation.
Moeller HC is no friend of MSU. Confirmed in private by MSU asst. coaches.

No offense, but I doubt those coaches are happy you're posting that info here.

I'm sure they would like to maintain a good relationship with the guy.
