'13 FL DT Maquedius Bain (LSU verbal)

  • Maquedius Bain recently released a top 5 of Miami, Michigan State, USC, LSU, and Bama in no order. Miami is considered the favorite right now, and if you noticed FSU isn't in his top 5, so he will most likely decommit.

    247 Doesnt list us as on offer but scout does.

    Same high school as Mac Kings.

  • Another story on him, looking like FSU is out. The comment, "Bain complains about the number of defensive tackles at some schools and discusses how it might hurt his chances at early playing time", seems to apply to MSU as well.

    I don't understand this, he should be able to see based on the complaints of this board alone that our DT position is not filled with high end talent. We are short at the DT position and currently void of "That Guy" for the NT & DT positions, we have some nice pieces, but noone that should discourage him from thinking he won't be likely to have significant playing time before the beginning of his sophomore season.

    2013 - NO COMMITS Yet

    2012 Depth Chart is Hoover and AR White, Hoover will be gone after this season and A White will be in his Senior. Everyone else mostly unproven right now.

    When Bain would arrive as a Freshman, the 2 deep at DL would be wide open to competition as it stands right now.

    The coaches will tell him the same thing they tell everyone. If you come here and work hard and improve you could play early and a lot. He has to like we have a second round pick in Jerel Worthy last year and Gholston a likely first round pick this year. If Bain has us in hip Top Five, I have to believe because he sees the opposite as he sees at FSU, and that is possible early playing time.

  • Bain is a 4* on Scout. He is a big-time DT/DE prospect @ 6'-4", 290 lbs. He is athletic for his size and has tremendous upside. He is still raw technique-wise but has only played football since his Fr. year in HS and is still learning the game. He played basketball before that. High intensity/all out effort type of player.

    Knox is a DT too I believe. Our depth chart at DT has to look as open as anyone's.

    Correct, Knox is at DT.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Quoted recently saying he's planning an OV to MSU. Will take all five. Says he probably won't commit until after his season so it'll be interesting to see if there's still a spot available then. Apparently close with MacGarret Kings (same HS), so that's where the interest is coming from.

    Supposedly he's all about Miami, but you never know what can happen if we get him on campus.

    Peko wants to wait until his JUCO season is over, and apparently Augusta wants to wait too, so there will probably be room when he takes his OV

    He also said coach Stoutland when asked about why MSU is in his top 5. Did I miss something or did he mean Staten?

    Kid wants to stay close to home. We'll land Peko or Augusta instead.

  • Rexrode mentioned in the Freep that Kings and Bain are good friends and that Kings has recruited him hard. That is apparently the main connection that has him interested in us. He looks to be like a huge potential get that could put the icing on an incredible class for only 15-16 guys.
