Sucks to say but this kid is most likely going to be blue.

It's mid April. Don't let a few tweets throw you for a loop.

This morning I stumbled on a piece that said Laquon was going to play his senior year, go on ALL FIVE officials and then make a decision in late January/Early February (Trying to find article, will edit when I do). There is an incredible amount of time left in terms of recruiting. I think Scum may have alot more competition for Treadwell than some think.

Oh I don't doubt you there. I have also heard the same. We'll have taken our 1 WR for this class long before this kid makes a decision.

  • With UofM taking York today... do we know if there is room there for Treadwell? If not i'd assume it helps our chances.

They are still going after Laquon.

Of course they are. Hoke and Borges are probably "holding a spot" for him while they explained to York that he could have the final WR spot if he committed soon. Levenberry 2.0.

They are wanting to get to 25 before the season opener and if they need to reach for a kid or two - so be it. This would be an example. I can't wait to see how high the fanboys like Helmholdt and Trieu move this kid up their "rankings" now that he's committed to Michigan, when he wasn't even rated playing in basically their own backyards. Probably will check in at a very high three next update when he would have been Kieler-level with an MSU commitment. Joke.

Yes, they are going to reach at a position of need to meet a completely arbitrary deadline to fill up their class 5 months early. Let me guess- this strategy is because Michigan is about to win 4 games and they know they won't get anyone to commit once everyone sees how terrrible Michigan is.

Didnt we take 5 WRs in our class last year? I think its well known for those who follow recruiting closely that UM was looking for 3 WRs in this class. I believe 247 had York listed as the #9 player in the state of Michigan for the last month. It does look like a reach for UM but at a position of extreme need for them. Lets not get too carried away with these conspiracy theories.

Just because the 247 rankings say he is the 9th best player doesn't mean it is a reach. Just like in the NFL draft a player isn't a reach because Mel Kiper says so.

  • Interview W/Treadwell out today says there is 0% chance he commits to UM on his next visit. Wants to visit some other schools this summer (names 3, one of which is MSU).

Also says that UM has told him they will hold a spot for him.

Not sure they're settling. He had a lot of the recruiting services raving about him before he even had a UM offer.

As for Treadwell, glad to see MSU is still in the hunt; seemed he was all but Ann Arbor bound.

The guy seems to be blowing up. I don't think he is under the radar anymore.

Just because they took one receiver it doesn't mean that they can't take another one. A lot of teams take multiple receivers each year. We just took four last year. When we took Kerrick did that mean we were willing to settle because he wasn't rated as highly as guys like Burbridge and Madaris?

they are settling because they are taking an in-state kid that we didn't offer

Still, settling? We didn't offer because we are loaded at receiver. A normal year we probably would have offered this kid, but we took so many last year that there is no point unless he is an elite talent. The staff doesn't see York as elite, but that doesnt mean that he is not a good player.

By this logic did we settle for Gerald Holmes?

So, by that logic, were we settling because we took Reschke and Holmes when they're in-state kids didn't have scUM offers?

The staff didn't offer York because we've got limited WR slots available and there are guys they like better. Michigan is in a different position, they're looking for three guys and recently had a couple of targets that committed to other schools, so they offered a kid that's been blowing up on the camp circuit. Works for them, works for York and has no impact on us.

If we had a legitimate chance at other highly recruited RB prospects, then I would say yes. In this situation it seems like the staff narrowed it down to who they wanted most and Holmes was there to commit.

    Now about Treadwell:

It is great news that he is not going to decide anytime soon and ever better that he is no longer visiting UM this week. It will be interesting to see how he plans his visits and how long he goes without making a commitment. I'm just really glad we are still in contention and in his plans for a visit.

I think he'll visit soon. Obviously it is good news for MSU that he wants to visit there again, but IMO Michigan is firmly in the drivers seat.

anyone that is offered months before the summer before there senior year is a major plan A recruit - so Holmes isn't a relevant comparison. That said, I don't believe that UM is settling. I think UM is desperate for receivers and are happy to take solid but unspectacular prospects (as they have more spots for receivers). I think MSU wants to take only game breakers at WR, in this class.

Right I think there is this really warped sense of things from all fanbases because everything is so sped up this year (and will only get worse next year IMO).

It is the beginning of May- 2 years ago this month was the first point in which offers and commitments really started coming.

Sorry but you are wrong. Following the Columbus NFTC, York was rated for the first time this week as an 85. After the Michigan offer he jumps to an 89, then down to an 88 where he is currently placed. It's pretty obvious why. It's the same scenario as earlier in the year when Michigan had four 3 stars, then after the commitments two of them are bumped to four stars. Just stating the facts and calling out the patterns. Unfortunately this is off topic to Treadwell, but needs to be said.

Treadwell will not commit to any program until after his senior season & official visits. He has stated that himself numerous times throughout the process.
