'13 IL WR Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss verbal)

  • SpartyHard said...

Treadwell will not commit to any program until after his senior season & official visits. He has stated that himself numerous times throughout the process.

It looks like his plan might be changing to an earlier decision.

Just saw that, was going off of what he stated repeatedly.

Yes, they are going to reach at a position of need to meet a completely arbitrary deadline to fill up their class 5 months early. Let me guess- this strategy is because Michigan is about to win 4 games and they know they won't get anyone to commit once everyone sees how terrrible Michigan is.

Exaggerate a little more. You don't think 8-4 would possibly cause a decommit?

And it is a reach. They offered 17 WRs before they offered this kid.

    8-4? I doubt it.

And you are being ridiculous. York was a completely under the radar guy and in the last month he blew up. Read any report on him on any of the recruiting sites. Michigan isn't reaching for a kid in the beginning of May.

Dantonio is offering kids now as well- are those offers reaches?

I have read the reports on him. I'm not impressed by camp performances. It's down the list in what I look for. Why would I read Helmholdt and Trieu's takes? They are U-M fanboys. It'd be like getting an opinion on an MSU commit from Comparoni. 247 has him 9th in the state? Top 10 is always decent, but this is a down year for talent in MI compared to last year.

To answer your question, it would depend on the position - but yes I would call some reaches at this point.

I'm surprised that Dantonio hasn't hired you to be the Midwest recruiter already. Are you asking for too high of a salary?

  • Not reaches - but possibly not the nobrainers the earlier offers were - UM offered without camping him, so it isn't a case of them being able to drill him.

A 7on7 camp or a showcase is different than a junior day or a camp at a particular school. The latter is important, but frankly I don't give a shit about the dozens of showcases that recruiting analysts fawn over. They're working out wonderfully for Will Campbell. Thank you for the snarky comment, though.

The argument doesn't revolve around whether camps are important. It's whether or not the York kid was a reach for Michigan.

I kid. I kid. I'm not impressed either when I hear that a player blew up the 7v7, even though it sometimes is going up against the top competition in the area as was the case for York

Take this argument elsewhere, and yes, 8-4 is a strong possibility until you get a real qb.

FYI, I think you misread his statement. I believe he was saying de-commits were unlikely with an 8-4 season, not that an 8-4 season is unlikely.

And FWIW, I think York is probably underrated. I don't think the staff feels like they are reaching when it's early May and there are still a ton of uncommitted, highly ranked WRs out there. If it was January, yes, this would feel like a reach. But pre-camp, I trust that the coaches had no reservations about handing out an offer. Even if UM lands Treadwell, the WR group as a whole will not be ranked highly but I feel like the coaches will be perfectly happy with that group.

That is some tough competition for this kid. I would say he is a long shot for us considering how deep we are with young WRs after bringing in 5 last year. Still would love to have him. If we dont get him I hope he ends up in Okla somewhere rather than UM, ND, Ill or USC.

  • There are some rumblings he may be on campus for the MSU-ND game next week with his teammate '14 LB Nyles Morgan.

Not sure how this will play out with the limited scholarships and WRs already in the fold, but it's news nonetheless.

If by some chance he wants to commit, I think we take him.. Not only to get a good WR prospect, but also to deny UM one.

That being said, I think he's gonna be blue or SEC.

Treadwell is not merely "good" he's one of the top 3 WRs in the country. Of course we take him.

I have to agree with Natron. Laquon is a guy that will play day one. He's is the top WR in his class.

Adding him to our lineup would make our WR crew go from elite to unstoppable. That's why we take him.

    YouDoubleJack

  • We take him bc he is great! We also want a taller wr in this class, but he doesn't play day one at msu, we had tons of talented wrs in last years class n our core is very young to begin with! He plays day 1 at u of m bc they are horrible, they could easily go 7-5 lol as a preseason top 10 team!! Appalachian state, and Toledo all I gotta say scum look out for umass lolol

  • Its too early to say now but if after the OSU game Leveon is still getting so many carries I'd say there are opportunities in the passing game for new personnel.
