The "m" is for Mike, yes I am Zach's dad. I grew up in Lansing (Sexton HS Class of 80) and graduated from MSU in 84. I brought Zach to the Elite Camp last summer and he loved the campus. He has been a Spartan fan since birth. We are extremely excited for the offers he has received and are still hoping for an MSU offer. We will try to get him to as many schools as possible this winter and spring. Northwestern spoke with him last week and seem very interested so maybe a Big Ten offer will get the ball rolling with State. Whether he gets an offer or not, we'll always bleed green :)

I hope I am in the same position when my sons get older.

  • Looks like BJ Cunningham v2. Catch everything thrown his way and truck a few people while you're at it.

Getting offers from Maryland and GaTech in his junior year is very solid. I hope he gets an MSU offer and goes green.

Is this how every recruiting year first develops, or does it seem like we have a ridiculous number of early MSU leans for 2013? You could chalk it up in part to MD's success, but it's tough to give him sole credit for random, highly touted recruits saying they've been lifelong MSU fans.

    Not that I'm complaining.

I've been noticing, too. Recruiting class of 2013 looks to have a nice foundation for MSU.

Good luck to Zach! After watching video, seeing his offer list and DC area accolades, I would love to see him in Green and White. BTW...I graduated from MSU class of 87 and am from Cumberland. Always good to see some home state impact at MSU. Now if I could just get the B1G network on my local cable...

  • Yeah figured mbrad was pops. You raised your son well! Green from birth- way to go!

He looks like a pretty good player judging by the highlight and early offers. Hope to see his dream come true and he ends up a Spartan.

  • Give this kid a schollie!

Not sure about his speed but has great size and athleticism.

I could see him playing WR or outside linebacker.

The fact that he loves Michigan State and wants to be here...that's all I need to know.

My only guess is that the coaching staff wants to personally evaluate him and let him know where they think he fits in(position) before offering.

That's the way Dantonio usually does things...especially when a kid appears to be capable of playing a number of different positions.

  • I hope he decides to camp with us and picks up his offer from Dantonio personally... and shortly after commits... While rocking the Chris Hill Jersey!!! cheers

Dad, time to get that boring bedroom painted Green and White in that new house.

Seriously, does Zach have any preference to position at the next level?

He says no preference. Some (e.g. South Carolina, Rutgers) want him as WR, Northwestern as a "Superback", most as an ATH.

Zach is a Playmaker on Offense, Defense and ST's. He could project to WR, Flex TE or LB at the next level. I was impressed with his defensive instincts in his film. That is just something that can't be taught. You either have them or you don't.
If he were to come to MSU, when he arrives on campus the staff will evaluate which position fits him best and where he can be the most successful.

If not offered, for whatever reason.....Wish him well and hope you continue to love your Alma mater.

But hope he is Green and White!

  • Since we are only taking one WR this year... Maybe MSU will just recruit him as an ATH?

I was just thinking the same thing (giving him a look as an ATH). At 6'3" 200# (listed) he has the measurables for a few positions. Scholarships are tight, but hopefully the staff stays in touch with this guy and gives him an offer, especially since he grew up an MSU fan.

No, he hasn't been invited. The MSU coaching staff has spoken to his HS coaches and are evaluating his film but not really sure at this point what level of interest they have. Hopefully they will offer but we are extremely excited and thankful for the opportunities he has been given. We are headed to Rutgers this weekend and will make plans to visit his Big Ten offers in the spring.
