'13 MI OG Cameron Dillard (Florida Verbal)

  • CoachedByDuffy said...

It's not a certainty that Dillard will receive an MSU offer this weekend.
MSU will take only one interior OL for 2013.
Patrick Kugler is still the # 1 priority @ OG on MSU's recruiting board.
A lot will depend on how much interest Kugler will show for MSU when the coaching staff talks with him one-on-one tomorrow.
It's very possible that MSU won't offer Dillard this weekend. If Dillard doesn't get an offer this weekend, he will probably stop visiting MSU in the future.

Certainly a tough call there. Coaches have their work cut out for them only having 12-14 ships available. So long as the coaches get guys that they want (and yes, they missed out on guys that they wanted in 2012), things should be fine.

I feel like we're going to be left holding the bag if we miss on Kugler and Dillard has already moved on. I don't like putting all our eggs in the Kugler basket at all.

Agreed. Do we know that Kugler is THAT much better than Dillard that we don't offer Dillard and make it a first come first served situation?

I dont either because while I dont think MSU is a long shot for Kugler he is far from a slam dunk.

    Just read Kuglers tweets.

Holding the bag is pretty appropriate phrase for the situation.

  • The thing that puzzles me most about Dillard is that there would have to be A LOT of good coaches from A LOT of good teams that got this one wrong. When you see his list of offers.... come on. You always hear the stories about one coach shadowing another coach's offers because they trust them to analyze talent (ie Urban Meyer following Saban), so this would seem absolutely apparent. His list is phenomenal. I can't imagine all of those staffs missing on the same person.

  • We need to get Dillard this weekend if he wants to commit. I'm worried about Kugler and Dillard is a very good looking prospect with a great offer list.

A few commits this weekend would be nice for some momentum. Hopefully Dillard (and maybe Shelton) can sign on.

I always felt that Dillard was an MSU lock with all the unofficial visits he has taken to East Lansing. That still maybe the case be recent articles make me wonder. The biggest is from 4 days ago, after Florida offered, it says he grew up a Gator fan.

The most recent is from Arkansas, they are trying to get him on campus next weekend for their Junior day.

Hard to believe anyone from michigan grew up a fan of florida. He was a little too young to remember the spurrier days and meyers tenure was somewhat brief. They were awesome but I think everyone is a fan when they get an offer from an excellent school.

I agree with you, growing up it was Michigan, MSU, some ND and then the odd kid choosing an out of state school. Dillard maybe that odd kid.

Fwiw, this is from the article,

"...but Tuesday’s offer from Florida felt a little different. “Being a fan of them since I was little, it means a lot to me,” Dillard told 247Sports..."

  • Staff probaby blew it with this kid by not offering when programs like FLORIDA were. Really need to get their shit together.

My line of thought as well, however I thought the same possibility with Jamal Lyles last year too and he commited shortly after his offer.

  • Per Wiltfong on a post on tRCMB, staff told him to call today. Hopefully that means an offer is forthcoming. It's be great to lock him up and get a jump on a great OL class for 2013.

What's the consensus? Does he stay at guard or will he grow into an tackle?

    OG, possibly a C.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Dillard has been very good at playing to the fanbase of the person interviewing him. He has basically told Florida, Clemson, and MSU media that they were all his favorite schools. I just think the kid is so thankful for everyone recruiting him that he doesn't want one of their fanbases to feel that they are being shunned and left out in the dark.

Yeah, there's a video on ESPN (insider) where he talks to the Wolverine Nation ( pukeface ) recruiting writer. He brought up Michigan more than I expected to, but he did mention State and a few other schools too. He's definitely playing to the interviewer.

  • What are we waiting for? This kids is going to blow up into a 4 or 5 star before this process is over. Let's lock him in and move on.

10 months from now, after MSU potentially signs a kid from----let's say Texas----potentially opening up a pipline that sends players up north form TX for years to come, will people still be bitching about offer timeframes?

    Back down.

I would love to have Dilliard on MSU just as mush as the next Spartan. But we aren't the coaches that led MSU out of oblivion. We aren't the coaches who called ESPN's most memorable fakes and hail mary's in recent college football history. And we didn't lead the team to a bowl victory over an SEC team with mostly two and three star players. Dantonio has proved smarted than you, me, and everyone else in MI lately.
