'13 MI OT Dennis Finley (MSU Verbal)

Ours is no slouch either though having just turned the Tampa job down

Roushar is now OC, not OL coach. Staten is the OL coach.

But I agree, our OL coaching has been fairly solid considering the huge run of injuries. The only problem is that they seem to pick a year to be great at run blocking (like 2010) or pass blocking (2011) and not both. lol

  • I don't see how this kid does not end up at MSU. I understand the Cass Tech issues and everything why some MSU would be leary of Wilcher here... but I think that kind of gets overblowen to an extent.

i have no problem with a coach telling someone to wait for other offers. its always better to have multiple options and pick the best one for you. and if michigan is not involved he might not steer them away. Back in 2009 Teric Jones wanted to commit to MSU and Wilcher was just fine with it. We didnt have the room and it was before michigan got involved.

Yeah, it's always better except when the incoming offers aren't as good, and the spot at the school originally offering fills up. So maybe on always.

Wisky is a hard offer to turn down for an OL in the first place, but his coach is going to be playing them up HARD from now until February. His sister being at MSU means little next to Wilcher shouting "YOU'LL BE A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK AT WISCONSIN!!!" into his ear every day. I was very optimistic about Finley until this offer. Now, not so much.

No, Rocky's right about the situation at UW. They lost half their staff and could be posed for a down season this year. Not doubt Wilcher will be saying it, but I'd bet the seasons MSU & UW have would be more of a factor. If that's the case, I like MSU's chances.

Individual seasons are a way overblown factor in recruiting. What Wisconsin does this season is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is, Wisky has sent multiple OL to the NFL in the first round in the past few years. That credibility will not be undone by one poor season - and it's highly unlikely they'll have a bad season at all. Wisky's OL will not suddenly suck horribly next year, and their reputation as perhaps THE top OL development program will not be gone by February no matter what happens. In a few years, if it has gone down hill, then Wisky may not mean much to an OL recruit, but for the class of 2013 it is a heavyweight offer.

  • Finley would be a great pickup for a couple of reasons. First we need OLmen and its seems his stock is really rising. Second is he is a CT kid and much like Hoke getting a couple FHH kids and Glenville kids it is good to get your foot in the door of these pipeline schools. Wilcher will not be there forever. And the Wilcher factor might be overblown as CT is sending kids to a ton of different D1 schools.

You could be right. On the otherhand, I wouldn't assume that losing half the staff only means one season of problems for UW.

Think about what your opinion of UW's/Bielema's future would ha be to be like, for you to decide it was better to go to Pitt where coaches are leaving or being blown out on a pretty regular basis. Not only that, but you decided to leave the BT for the BLeast, and go to a school that gets PSU's sloppy seconds on a regular basis, from a school that didn't have instate competition?! I don't know about you but I see half the staff losing confidence in BB and blowin' outta town.

  • Coaching turn over has not seemed to bother scUM, O$U, or PedoStateU on the recruiting trail.

I didn't assume that Wisky's OL program will continue as it has. My point is that right now their reputation speaks for itself, and I don't think an OL recruit is going to have a "wait-and-see" approach over that. The 1st round draft picks are far more influential to a 2013 recruit's mind than any uncertainty with the OL coaches, if they even pay that any mind at all. Right now, Wisky will get the benefit of the doubt because of what they've done. The 2013 recruits will be signed and on campus before we see any hypothetical degradation of their OL development.

Problem is, half the guys responsible for their reputation are now at Pitt, and the recruits are aware of it.

I'd say it was too early to tell yet. I wait to rank recruiting classes by their results.

  • I don't see it - I don't think Wisconsin will beat MSU head to head for an instate recruit. MSU has too much mojo, at this time.

I read all the time on this board how we are wide receiver u and most of those guys were through different coaching. How do we think that doesn't apply to Wisconsin regarding their o line?

You should ask the receiver u guys.

All I'm saying is UW lost half their staff to a school that's been a revolving door for coaches, in a bush league. To me that says the coaches who left for Pitt had serious reservations about UW, they felt like they were leaving for better positions or they would have stayed put. They were in a position to see what was going on at UW, and they took off. It was a vote of no-confidence. I'll take their word for it and say I expect problems for UW.

    spartan80

  • they did leave for better positions, all of them. When you have success like UW has had, your guys are wanted. Bostad was always an NFL guy, would've been there this year regardless of following his best friend Chryst. Markuson is immediately one of the best if not the best Oline coach in the league (Reese Morgan moved to DL at Iowa). The reputation was there before Bostad (Hueber, Palermo) and will stay there (Markuson). You really have a wild imagination.

Either way, recruits don't give a heap OLine U, they care about playing time and comfort level. If they did, top Oline recruits would have been committing to UW and Iowa the past decade, instead of ND and Michigan.
