    Spartans To Land Another Ohioan?

Mark Dantonio has had plenty of success recruiting the state of Ohio. It looks like he might land one of the top 2013 cornerbacks from the Buckeye State.

  • 6'0 or 5'10? Rivals has him listed at 6' and 247 at 5'10, odd.

    Lets say he is 5'11.

Rivals is not too high on him(not in top250), but 247 has him as #168 in the nation. It would be great to get him, he is probably the second best CB in the midwest.

CBD, what is your take on the chances of Hicks coming to MSU? If he gets an O$U offer, do we stand a chance?

I think MSU has a very good chance with Hicks.
O$U may not offer him since they already have a couple of CB's committed for 2013.
If O$U were to extend him an offer then all bets are off but right now MSU is in good position with him.

no the bigger question is, if he commits to us now, but then later gets an OSU offer, does he pull a pittman?

sure he might....but that's just the way it is now with UrbanLiar at the helm: these kids and their parents will get wise to this ahole soon enough....I give it one more year and there are gonna be some pissed off bucknuts around that state: can't play them all: no matter what you initially promise them.

You better believe when Dantonio offers a kid just about every other coach takes a hard look at them right away.

Dantonio is known as one of the best talent evaluators in all of college football.

I don't know if this is true per se on offense (although, low-star/no-star players like Cousins, Cunningham, K-Mart, and Bell were better than most of their 4-5 star colleagues), it is true for defense. Jim Tressel, who knows a thing or two about putting together championship teams, has been quoted as saying Dantonio was the best evaluator of defensive talent he had ever seen.

As I've said many times before, in college football you can trick up an offense anyway you want to match your personnel, and score a bunch of points. Defense reigns supreme in college -- more so than in the NFL. That's why MD is having success.

That's exactly correct, the comment was regarding defensive talent. Given MD's history with DBs, I think his DB offers bear particular weight.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Jesus Christ, look at this quote:

“I am really looking forward to visiting Michigan because I have already seen how great it was when I went to games there this past season when they played San Diego State and Ohio State,” said Hicks. “The whole environment, the size of their stadium, their fans, and the campus really stick out to me about Michigan, it’s a great place! Michigan would probably be my top school if I were to get that offer.”

    Ugh.

I'll say it, because I'm sure if you do, you'll get negged to hell lol

Hicks says that if UM offers, they're his favorite. The reasons are basically the Big House (ie, playing in front of 100K+) and "the whole environment". He's been there twice, for SDSU and the Ohio State game.

I don't know if he's been up to MSU for a game yet. With any luck he'll hold off till he gets up to MSU.

Tbh, being at -2 dv isn't that bad for that post of mine, I expected more.

That only other thing I found noteworthy in the article is that Mattison is the one recruiting him. For those that don't know, he is considered one of the best recruiters in the nation.

    Mattison is a recruiting monster.

I gave you a +1 because that article is relevant to our recruitment of the kid. Thanks for drawing our attention to it.

I gave you a +1 as well. These player threads are for all news about the player's recruitment, not just the MSU-positive press. Not all posters appreciate that, but that article is precisely the type content that should be in the individual players threads.

Off of that, how many CBs is UM taking and where does Hicks fall on that list?

Some are saying he won't get an offer when he visits. There is a ton of chatter that Gareon Conley, 6'1" CB, out of Massillon OH, will commit this weekend. If that happens the only other DB commits Michigan will take would be a Cravens or Fuller type of recruit. At least that is what I have read.

For reference, link to Conley's page.

That sounds pretty good for MSU. I'll be keeping an eye on UM as the fill up at certain positions.

  • I'll add one additional bit of info that I read on another board regarding Hicks. PSU fans indicate that he's been offered by them. They've been putting together a really nice class thus far and they seem pretty confident that they immediately jumped to the top of this kid's list.
