'13 OH CB Darian Hicks (MSU Verbal)

    I'll add one additional bit of info that I read on another board regarding Hicks. PSU fans indicate that he's been offered by them. They've been putting together a really nice class thus far and they seem pretty confident that they immediately jumped to the top of this kid's list.

    That'll be his third "favorite" in 12 days.

    Oh yeah chairman I saw that. I counted scUM as his 2nd favorite. Psu would be his third favorite in as many weeks. Let's just get him on campus for the spring game and see what's what.

  • what if conley commits this weeken?. I have heard he is suppose to. Im sure they want to leave a spot open for a fuller so that may play out in our favor.

    I was just going to post this. Conley is a name going around that could possibly commit this weekend. I think the staff wants the bigger CB's.

    I don't think Michigan will offer Hicks, so I think you guys should be fine. (BTW I'm not talking down Hicks. I find him a solid prospect.)

    Some are saying he won't get an offer when he visits. There is a ton of chatter that Gareon Conley, 6'1" CB, out of Massillon OH, will commit this weekend. If that happens the only other DB commits Michigan will take would be a Cravens or Fuller type of recruit. At least that is what I have read.

    Conley is visiting Michigan tomorrow and has tweeted that he will be committing.

    With this commit I don't see Michigan taking Hicks unless it is late in the process.

  • This from Adam Rittengerg on Feb. 27, 2012 ranking the Big Ten DB's postseason:

    "1. Michigan State: The spartans had three of four starting defensive backs--safety Trenton Robinson, cornerback Johnny Adams and safety Isaiah Lewis--selected first-team or second-team All-Big Ten, illustrating the depth coach Mark Dantonio has built in recent years. Michigan State's secondary also continued to be a playmaking unit, recording a league-best 18 interceptions, returning 4 for touchdowns. The Spartans had five defensive backs record two or more interceptions. Adams will enter the 2012 season pegged as the league's top cornerback."

    Of course other than the above, there's not much for a defensive backfield recruit to consider about Michigan State....nor should there need to be.

    Off of this, Conley committed to UM today.

    Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • tO$U has been getting mutual interest from the #2 CB in the country(so the 247 rankings say). MacKensie Alexander from FL. Guess there is a good chance they will be a player in the end.

    May help us secure Hicks, Darian would be a phenomenal pickup.

    When was VIP.

    I think he gets an offer. He was scheduled to come earlier, Hoke's father passed away so the visit was resheduled. I have read that a Michigan offer jumps them to the top, and a tOSU offer this summer at camp may jump them over any others.

    Yeah, based on what I've read his order is OSU, UM, then MSU.

    So now we just have to hope we leapfrog or that you don't offer.

  • O$U will continue to slow play Darian Hicks while recruiting some other in-state CB's like Reon Dawson and Caleb Day and some highly ranked out-of-state CB prospects such as Vernon Hargreaves, Kendall Fuller, Mackensie Alexander, Jalen Ramsey, and Tim Harris.
    Hicks would commit to O$U right away if offered but I'm hearing that an OSU offer will never happen. Hicks is a "Plan B or C" recruit for O$U.
    Note : O$U already has 2 CB verbals for 2013 and word is they will now only take one other "elite" level CB prospect in the 2013 class

    There's still UM recruiting him as well, who he has also spoke highly of. If they offer him that would shake things up.

    I really like our chances as long as UM and OSU don't offer. Is he a "plan A" guy for MD and staff?

    Darian Hicks is in the top 3 on MSU's CB recruiting board. Definitely Plan A.

  • His cancelled scUM visit of last week is re-scheduled for this week. Can't remember reading whether it was wed/thur or a weekend trip but it's on the books. It sounds crazy that someone like Hicks would consider playing in any other secondary but ours considering how good we were, and how good we'll be. He literally has a chance to be a part of a top 3 secondary. However, we're not adding another 25,000 seats to the stadium over night so I guess we'll just have to keep our foot on scUM's throat on the field.
    As I said before, Hicks is awesome and I'll take him any way we can get him.

    I believe they are recruiting him as a CB... With this offer to Douglas it looks like Hicks may not be a plan A guy for Michigan...

    He's not, but I guess we'll find out for sure after this weekend. They have offers to some kids on the west coast and some other kids around the country. They are only taking one more corner/safety so they are going to be selective.
