  • I'm wondering if this guy is really more of a tackle for big ten football. Or if Narduzzi ever does try some 3-4 more extensively he'd make an ideal passing lane clogging 3-4 DE.

Will be interesting to find out down the road. With his size and athleticism all he needs is some motivation to turn himself into something great.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Quite tall for a DT. Glad we've got him though.

  • Here is my analysis of James Bodanis :

DT James Bodanis (6'-5.25", 303 lbs.) - He is a NT type prospect, a position that MSU was hoping to add in the 2013 class. Has a very powerful lower body and seldom gets knocked off his feet. Has developed a swim move and a spin move to go along with his bull rush to penetrate into the backfield. Seems to have been pretty well coached at Toronto. Runs well for a big man with a reported 4.9 forty and is a pretty good athlete. Is quick off the line of scrimmage for a player of his size. Doesn't need to gather himself before coming off the line of scrimmage like some big men and can explode at times. He plays with a high motor and is relentless in pursuit on plays away from him. Cannot play during the 2013 season due to NCAA transfer rules but can participate in all other team activities. Will have 2 years of eligibility beginning in 2014.
Note : In the workout portion of his video he does a 48" Sitting Box Jump. This is difficult for many athletes, let alone someone of his size. Shows how much lower body and leg strength he has.

Thanks CBD. I thought that he was paying his own way in Toronto so he will be able to play right a way?

thanks CBD....was hoping he'd have 3 years but....we'll take 2 I suppose. This is a BIG man gents...I am 6'5" tall and a VERY soft 225.....303? Jebus, and he doesn't look fat. What weight do you project him to play DT at? (for CBD and/or Rocky?)

  • Just put in what would be worst case scenario concerning his eligibilty at this time.
    Stay tuned.

With his frame, Ken Mannie can get him up to about 320 lbs. and probably still retain his speed. That added weight would be in his upper body which still shows that he needs to add muscle there.

Thanks for the info CBD, I do appreciate what you do here. What is your gut feeling regarding his eligibility. It would be awesome if he was granted the third year.

    +1

Wow, that's a rare thing, to have a prospect that needs to improve his upper body strength only. Leg strength matter so much in the trenches; glad to hear that he's pretty much already there.

Good question braintrust. RCR last week I believe the staff was working with UT and thought they'd have it figured out as of last week. I'm hoping three to play two.
