  • Well coach D and Alex have one huge thing in common. Coach D isn't a fan of that "whole de-commiting thing" either. In fact coach D is so not a fan that if he tried to commit on the spot coach D almost certainly wouldn't accept his commitment. It's frustrating, but in the long run it strengthens the bond when the deal is finally sealed.

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to seem snappy. There WAS a recent update on tRCMB about him though and people did start rolling with that joke... pretty harshly. It got bad so I was just in a "here we go again" phase, I guess.

  • "We've got to take care of Pennsylvania," O'Brien said. "I think that's how you build a team. You have a bunch of guys from a similar area with similar backgrounds, where their parents can come watch them play. That's going to be a big part of what we do is recruit Pennsylvania. Every coach on the staff will have an area of Pennsylvania recruiting."

Following Junior Day, Penn State offered scholarships to Central Dauphin athlete Zayd Issah, Bishop McDevitt wide receiver Brian Lemelle, West Catholic running back David Williams, Clairton safety Tyler Boyd, Wyomissing linebacker Alex Anzalone and Belle Vernon offensive tackle Dorian Johnson.

O'Brien, who succeeded the late Joe Paterno at Penn State in early January, recently hosted a junior day which, by most accounts, was very successful. Coming out of it, O'Brien has extended offers to several big-name recruits from Pennsylvania, notably Cedar Cliff tight end Adam Breneman and Wyomissing linebacker Alex Anzalone. Another elite Pennsylvania player, speedy wideout Robert Foster of Central Valley in Monaca, also visited State College during Junior Day weekend.

Breneman and Foster are considered can't-miss five-stars; Anzalone may soon join them in that category. It's critical that O'Brien lands at least two of them -- Pittsburgh is pushing for Foster, too -- and it wouldn't hurt to land Philadelphia running back David Williams, either.

It's from an interview w/ Black Shoes Diaries. Apparently Anzalone is visiting PSU this weekend.

    MgoPhilly

  • If that is the case and UM is full at LB, I'm wondering if they have a silent pledge from Gedeon. If they are just full at the position, than our staff needs to be pushing this kid in for a visit ASAP. I love his game, grabbing him or Shane Jones would be a monster LB haul for our class.

    Jizzy2323

  • it's correct that he was told Mich is full at LB and he is no longer visiting. It is suspected there is a silent from Gedeon and they feel confident in their place with Levenberry. Will need to go after him hard as OSU thinks they are the favorites (like always)

  • From PennLive

In other recruiting news, Wyomissing outside linebacker Alex Anzalone scrapped his planned visit to Michigan this weekend. Instead, the 6-3, 220-pound Anzalone will pay a visit to State College.

A month ago the Spartans' backer had only two official offers. In the space of 30 days, Anzalone has picked up more than 20 additional offers including most recently Stanford and USC.

Wyomissing is near Reading in Eastern PA. Traditionally prime Penn State territory.

That is probably a deterrent more than anything. Analzone is likely a LB with NFL ambition, and that will kill any chance.
