Are we going hard after Boyd? He has fa-nominal offensive stats ( 2,400 Rush y, 41 TD's 16 Rec 314 7 TD's as a junior ). And is super versatile. I wish it showed his defensive stats but it don't. But it will interesting to see if he improves and does even better his senior year. But most important he is a winner (46 consecutive wins). I hope we can get him on campus A.S.A.P.

Don't know how accurate it is, but according to some source (a retweet of a Demetrios Cox tweet) both Boyd and Robert Foster will be camping in EL on June 15/16. Again, I have no idea if that's accurate, but it was on Twitter so......

Tyler Boyd and Robert Foster are planning to participate in a 7-on-7 tournament at MSU on June 15th.
No confirmation that they are staying over for the June 16th camp. More than likely not since they both already hold MSU offers.

  • CBD, while they are at the tournament does that give them the opportunity to tour the campus with the coaches as well as the facilities? Or will most of their time be spent playing in the competition? Would be huge if Cox was here with them touring as well as in their ears while doing it.

Clairton has two players Pitt is recruiting -- receiver Tyler Boyd and defensive back Titus Howard -- and there are a number of other prospects, such as Seton LaSalle tight end Scott Orndoff, whose schools are participating in the camp.

Clairton has a 47-game winning streak, and if the Bears go undefeated through the WPIAL championship game this season, they will break the state record for the longest streak. And Nola said the 7-on-7 camp, which Clairton has won several times over the years, is the first step toward that goal.

Cherpak said new coach Paul Chryst and his staff have done a great job reconnecting and putting out the welcome mat.

"We didn't come to this camp last year for obvious reasons," Cherpak said, referring to departed coach Todd Graham. "[Pitt director of operations] Chris LaSala does an amazing job of setting this up and organizing it, and the staff now makes us all feel so welcome.

Does WR Tyler Boyd Have a Favorite?
Jun 29th, 2012 at 6:15 am by Tim Tolley

Clairton, PA wide receiver Tyler Boyd was at the Rivals100 5 star challenge last weekend and hooked up with Penn State QB commit Christian Hackenberg for “several” touchdowns.

I’m hearing that Penn State is now a “heavy favorite” for the 6’1″ Pennsylvania native. Joining PSU in Boyd’s top three are apparently West Virginia and USC, who Boyd grew up cheering for. Boyd is hoping to take a trip to USC but it’s unclear if the Trojans are in a position to recruit another receiver.

USC already has two receivers on board and they are also still in it for both Robert Foster and Paul Harris (may be Harris' leader). Given that they have so few spots this year, how many more wideouts are they looking to take?

Gorman on recruiting: Call Clairton’s Boyd an All-America WR

    By Kevin Gorman

    Published: Saturday, August 18, 2012, 11:59 p.m.
    Updated: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Tyler Boyd doesn’t know where he will play college football. The Clairton star has decided, however, when and where he will announce his decision.

Boyd accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 5 in San Antonio, and intends to reveal his college choice during the NBC national telecast.

Boyd takes offense that fellow WPIAL prospects like Central Valley’s Robert Foster, North Allegheny’s Patrick Kugler and Belle Vernon’s Dorian Johnson were ranked higher and didn’t compete on the national camp circuit.

“Compared to all of them, I earned mine more than anybody else,” Boyd said. “I went to camps and showed everyone. Instead of competing in the WPIAL, I competed against the U.S.”

He played running back and wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball last year but safety maybe his best position at the next level.

About half of Clairton's football players have Twitter accounts with the username of "boutdat_" followed by their jersey number.

"It's just like we all want to represent and let everyone know what we're about," said star senior Tyler Boyd. "So we just use 'bout dat.' "

The last time Clairton lost a game was the '09 season opener to Laurel, 15-8. And while the Bears coaches and players will tell you the most important things are WPIAL and PIAA titles, don't think this winning streak doesn't carry importance. Heck, the streak is one of the main reasons Tom Nola is back as coach.

The Bears most certainly are strong again. Boyd, who will play running back, receiver, quarterback and defensive back, is one of the best players in the state and has two dozen Division I college scholarship offers.

  • Clairton survives scare

    By Josh Yohe

    Published: Saturday, September 1, 2012, 1:04 a.m.

Clairton won its 48th consecutive game in stunningly unconvincing fashion, beating a Chartiers-Houston team, 22-20, that it usually handles with ease.

Clairton played without 12 players, who are academically ineligible or unable to play for other off-field matters.

The leader of the Bears wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance, nor was Tyler Boyd happy that Clairton was depleted. Boyd, who was held to only 84 yards, was exhausted following a game that saw Clairton essentially play without back-ups because of its lack of depth.

“It’s just very disappointing in every possible way,” Boyd said. “It’s disappointing that we have so many people out of the lineup right now. We had no depth at all, and it was a hot night. We were exhausted. I kept telling guys in the huddle, ‘I know you’re out of gas. I am too. But keep on fighting.’”

After Clairton appeared to pull away in the second half, the Bucs again responded. A touchdown with two minutes left pulled Chartiers-Houston within two points. Boyd recovered an onside kick, and the game was put away when Bryon Cliffard scampered for a first-down run later in the possession.

The Bears’ inability to run effectively was notable. Playing without multiple starters on the offensive line, the Bears simply couldn’t run the ball with any reliability. Boyd was stuffed for losses on five occasions.

  • Clairton rolls to 50th straight win

    By Mark Kaboly

    Published: Friday, September 14, 2012,

The Bears added to the nation’s longest current winning streak with a 54-6 Black Hills Conference victory over California at Neil C. Brown Stadium.

Boyd rushed for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns, added two catches for 54 yards and returned a punt 55 yards for a score.

Clairton got on the board early following a blocked punt by Sedrick Nash. Boyd took a pitch 27 yards to the 3-yard line, then made it 6-0 on the following play.

Nash intercepted Malik Jackson on the following series to set Clairton up for another score. Ford raced around left end for a 31-yard touchdown run on the ensuing play and, following a 2-point conversion by Boyd, the Bears took a 14-0 lead.

After a three-and-out by Cal, Boyd struck again, returning a punt 55 yards for a touchdown to make it 20-0

Boyd added a third touchdown late in the second, and following an interception by Webb deep in California territory, Ford connected with Howard from 12 yards out to give Clairton a 34-6 lead.

“This all doesn’t mean anything unless we keep winning,” Boyd said. “We are taking it game by game. If we slip up and lose one week, it is all lost

    Hunting for big game

The Clairton at Monessen game tonight is most certainly a big game (live TV on Root Sports). Another big game is Saturday night when Beaver Falls plays at Beaver. But I don't remember a Friday night in recent history that is so lacking of big games.

  • Boyd, Clairton's Mr. Everything, had a do-it-all performance in a Root Sports television game that showed why he has more than two dozen scholarship offers from Division I colleges. Boyd had 231 yards by halftime as Clairton moved to a 39-7 advantage. The Bears scored 26 points in the final six minutes of the first half.
    PG VIDEO

Boyd, a 6-foot-2 senior, finished with 256 yards, scored three touchdowns and played his usual solid game at safety. He did just about everything for Clairton except make the cheerleaders' large sign that Clairton's players ran through at the beginning of the game that read, "Let's Get Messy With Monessen."

Boyd apparently took the sign to heart because he made a mess of Monessen's defense. He played receiver, running back and sometimes quarterback in a wildcat offense. All he did was:

    • Rush for 154 yards on 12 carries.

    • Complete 2 of 2 passes for 50 yards.

    • Catch two passes for 52 yards.

    • Make four tackles on defense.

    • Punt three times for a 32.0 average.

The Bears (4-0, 4-0) scored 26 consecutive points in the final 6 minutes, 8 seconds of the first half, including two touchdowns in a 17-second span during the final minute, to brush aside Monessen (3-1, 3-1) and earn the 601st win in school history.

Clairton entered the game as the top-ranked Class A team in the Trib Total Media rankings, and Monessen was No. 4.

Boyd, a top Division I prospect, rolled up 257 yards from scrimmage and scored three touchdowns. He carried 12 times for 154 yards and two scores, chipped in two catches for 52 and another TD and completed both of his passes for 51 yards.

It's the fifth consecutive WPIAL title and the sixth in seven years for the Bears. Clairton is the second team in WPIAL history to win five consecutive titles. Braddock won five Class AA titles from 1955-59.

The Bears were led by tailback Tyler Boyd and quarterback Armani Ford. Boyd rushed for 144 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 14 and 77 yards. He also connected with Santeaun Sims on a 74-yard touchdown on a halfback option pass.

  • seems to me like this kid is Pitt's to lose....is that your read 'spartan in PA'? I'd say Pitt made a VERY good hire in Chryst. I can see him winning between 8-10 games there the next 10 years or so once he gets a couple good classes in there. I don't care if O'Brien was Nat'l Coach of the Year at P$U: their brand has been hurt REAL bad, especially in Pennsylvania IMO.

  • Yes it is very tough to pull a Pitt target out of the Mon Valley. I had written him off until I saw him on CBD's Final Drive.

Also Boyd and Robert Foster were visiting Pitt on the weekend that Dorian Johnson committed.

A trio of top WPIAL football players visited Pitt this weekend, and there was at least one photo on Twitter of the three players wearing Pitt jerseys inside the Panthers locker room.

One of the three decided he would like to wear Pitt's jersey for real next year.

Dorian Johnson, a highly-touted senior offensive tackle from Belle Vernon High School, made a verbal commitment Sunday to Pitt. The other two top uncommitted players from the WPIAL who also visited Pitt this weekend were Clairton receiver Tyler Boyd and Central Valley receiver Robert Foster.

  • Big bump on Rivals list to #60 nationally. #8 WR, and now ranked ahead of fellow Western PA WR, highly touted Robert Foster.
