The built in negatives about Pitt (urban location, large fraction of commuter students, stadium and practice facility are off campus) do not seem to matter.

I wouldn't call Pitt's location a negative. Have you ever been to Oakland? It's a fucking awesome neighborhood.

It only makes sense if he wants to stay closer to home.

This. Based on the choices he's obviously considering location, not too far from home.

There has been a real sift in attitude toward Pitt as a result of hiring Chryst and the Wisconsin coaches he brought with him. They are really getting the benefit of the doubt as a first year coaching staff and benefiting from the Wisconsin reputation.

It's hard to say if that is even a factor here -- Pitt will always get some of the local talent, just like Rutgers gets some of the talented NJ kids and UMD gets some of their local players too because some kids just like the home state school. And there may be more excitement surrounding Pitt now than during Wanny's final days, but that doesn't mean there is much excitement compared to Big Ten schools or even WVU.

Dorian Johnson and Derwin Gray will be on campus this weekend, headlining a list of visitors for the Spring Game activities, and they are precisely "blue chip" prospects.

Dorian recently received a bump in his ratings by 247Sports and is now rated as the 2nd best offensive tackle in the country and 2nd best player in the state of Pennsylvania.

He was recently included in the ESPN150 as the 26th best player in the country. Dorian is from Belle Vernon, PA and has visited Pitt several times.

yeah, here's another article saying ""I'd like to stay close, no further than three to five hours from home,", and I think East Lansing is almost 7 hours

The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Johnson had committed to Penn State earlier this year before changing his mind after the Nittany Lions were hit with a series of NCAA sanctions in light of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

Johnson was unavailable for comment Sunday night while he was concluding his visit to Pitt with fellow WPIAL four-star recruits Tyler Boyd of Clairton and Rob Foster of Central Valley.
