You could argue that the new staff at Pitt is doing an excellent job recruiting so far. Draw for Penn kids regardless. And anyway, what the fuck is your point? Your going to insult the kids offer list? You should be happy we landed a playmaker. Have you bothered to watch his film?

I agree that a Pitt offer coming from the new staff does mean a little something. Not going to turn any heads or hold the same weight as a WVU offer though.

And a Maryland offer from Randy Edsall isn't too shabby - they are quietly putting together a pretty decent class.

    Welcome, Jay!!!!

    GO GREEN!

  • We can't always judge these recruits based on an offer list. I don't know how many times our coaching staff has to prove themselves. LeVeon Bell, Dennard, etc. The list goes on and on. We have become one of the best schools at targeting potential as well as talent. There is no question that Harris has a playmaking ability by watching his film. Lets move on. Welcome Harris!!

Not to mention they've done an excellent job the last two years of circling back around on midwestern kids they lost out but made a top 2 or 3 on and got them to transfer.
Anyway, done with Pitt. Jay's highlight film is an absolute blast to watch. With a slot receiver/PR/KR tandem in two years of Mcgarrett Kings and Jay Harris you'll actually have to game plan around them like teams had to for Keyshawn. When this dude gets loose in the open field he's gone, period.

  • Lions247's Sean Fitz just let me know that MSU commit Jay Harris measured 5-foot-11, 170 pounds at PSU's camp on the 16th. He ran a 4.6 40-yard dash, tallied 9'5" in the broad jump and a 4.35 shuttle.

Harris told me he ran a 4.5 40 at the end of MSU's camp, and the quickest he's ever been clocked is 4.4 at his high school.

  • I do admit...it seems like a strange commit.

Seems like we are overloaded at the WR position already.

I can only assume that Dantonio thinks there's something special about this kid.

He could have easily told him 'we are filled up at that position already'.

This is one of those things where I'll have to trust the coach and his ability to spot character, potential, and talent.

    Welcome to MSU!

Just do yourself a favor and watch his film. I didn't get it until I did the same.

4.6 seems a bit slow when you watch is film. He looks without question faster than alot of guys claiming much lower 40's. Thanks for the info Sean.

    This.

And let's just remember, Coach D has talked about how they need to be very selective with this class. If he accepts a commitment from someone, we know he thinks extremely highly of them. And like Skip said, you will too once you watch the film.

Here is my analysis of Jay Harris :

WR Jay Harris (5'-10.5", 172 lbs.) - Spartan fans are going to love this kid. He is a tough, fast, sturdy, compact runner who breaks a lot of tackles despite his size. He is elusive in the open field and he can shift gears and cut on a dime (reminds me a little of Eric Allen that way). He has excellent ball skills as a WR and can track down the deep ball when it's in the air. He is not afraid to go over the middle and make tough catches in traffic and he will fight for extra yardage. He is fearless as a KO and Punt Returner and can break long returns. He is a big play looking for a place to happen. He is already a fairly polished receiver. He may be red-shirted.

Bump. All I can say is watch his film.

The video is very good...I really like his ability to catch the ball in traffic.

I'm assuming this verbal means two things.

    1. MacGarrett Kings will not be redshirting this year.

    2. The staff knows that Drake Harris will be committing to MSU tomorrow.

    Explain both of those please.

Kings could definitely redshirt, and so could Harris. We have a multitude of players for this slot WR role.

How does Drake Harris affect this? He is a 2014 receiver and also a much bigger guy than Harris.

My guess is that MSU knows that have their 'big' receiver locked up for next year.

So they'll groom Jay Harris to take over for Kings and play the slot position next to the Drake Harris.

Makes sense if you're looking down the road a bit.

Then, next year, they can use that extra WR scholarship on a different position(OL, DE).

Basically, it means they feel Jay Harris has better overall potential than some of the guys at the remaining 'positions of need'.

    I Am That I Am

  • Dunno if they'd groom someone to "take over" for Kings if he's one class apart, at most 2 with redshirt. I think Harris was recruited not only as a WR but also as a return specialist.

Amazing stuff. Doesn't shy away from contact, runs tough on end arounds and shows good burst. Pretty sure it was mentioned earlier, but seems almost Keshawn Martin-esque.
