'14 IL OL Brian Allen (MSU verbal)

  • Center Brian Allen visiting Michigan State this weekend

His brother is redshirt freshman for Michigan State and the connections with the Spartans staff go way back for Brian Allen ...

  • That would be a truly cataclysmic event if he would commit this weekend. CBD and others is that in the realm of possibilities???

Speculation is going several different ways.
    1. He may commit this weekend during his visit
    2. He may commit shortly after his visit this weekend
    3. He may prolong the recruiting process a little longer to be sure he makes the right decision.
With another visit to campus for Saturday’s game against Nebraska you have to start wondering how much longer Allen will continue the recruiting process. If there were to be another early 2014 commitment there is a real chance it would come from Allen.

CBD, isn't it safe to say our biggest competition for the younger Allen is Iowa? He's visited them 8 times I believe. It's probably legit that he's seen quite a bit of both programs at this point no?

Probably between MSU and Iowa with Wisc. and ILL still in the mix.

Wisky is definitely in Allen's ear, and should be considered decent competition for Allen's services.

Visited last weekend, and a couple days prior there was a coaches' visit from Wisconsin.

  • Interestingly, his profile now lists MSU as 'warmer' with Wisconsin, OSU and Michigan as warm.

I hadn't heard too much about him and OSU/UM. It will be interesting to see if that means anything since he doesn't appear to have offers from them yet. Nonetheless, I think MSU is still sitting strong.

It's laughable that UM is listed as 'warm' and Iowa isn't, especially considering Allen said "I don't believe anything they (the UM coaches) say though."

Don't think UM has much of a real shot at this one, and OSU isn't really in the picture either. It should be a 3-way tie for MSU/Iowa/Wisconsin.

That was always my assumption as well. I was just pointing it out to see if there were some new developments.

He's also mentioned trying to make a visit to Nebraska, but he's spent the majority of his time at MSU/Wisconsin/Iowa. Like you said, seems like a 3-horse race here...

Both of you guys are spot on.

Allen may eventually suit up in the red & white, or the yellow and black. But there is absolutely no shot he dresses in the piss yellow and blue.

Yes, he seemed very shaken up and disappointed in the news. It sounded pretty clear that he was leaning toward committing to Wiscy, and fairly soon. This can only help our cause. It seemed that this site pretty much had him gift wrapped to MSU, but that certainly was not the case, and still isn't in spite of Bielema's departure.

He's visited MSU at least 5 times. I'd hardly say he was leaning wisky but he could have liked them and bielema.

It's funny when any of you try to say the he is or isn't leaning one way or another. You guys listen to an interview where he doesn't say who his favorites are or look at where he's been over the last year and you think you've got it all figured out. Somewhat funny to watch.

You may be misinterpreting what I was saying. I'm not an analyst and have not talked to the kid myself. I'm not suggesting he's leaning one way or another. Simply put, the good analyst always say, "look at what a kid does, not says". There are exceptions like Bosch, I believe, who visited like 7 times and commited elsewhere. However, the majority of the time you can get a pretty good look at what they like and don't like based on their visits. When we struggle to get a kid to visit, he's unsure. When a kid has been to campus 5-6 times, he's comfortable. As I said, it's not a guarantee, but it typically sugests your in the ballgame and will be so at the bottom of the 9th.

I think at the very least his visits tell you he has seriously been recruited by and considered both MSU & Wisky. If he was so sold on just MSU he would not have taken so many other visits to Wisconsin. I have to believe that Bielema leaving improves our chances. He obviously likes MSU, and I like our chances here. The sad thing for my life is i keep checking this thread thinking there really are updates. Lets move the back and forth to the 2014 recruiting thread.

For the record I appreciate a lot of what you add to the board Skip.

No worries. You're right. As opposed to moving it over we'll call it a draw and dump this meaningless arguement all together. My apologies.
