Because not everybody is Bo Jackson? Honestly who was the last football player to play basketball and also be a very successful basketball player that was a guard/wing? Peppers and Trannon come to mind but they played spot minutes in the post, big difference there. With the way
is recruiting guard/wing minutes are going to be hard to come by in 2014 and beyond. No matter how talented the kid is if he is concentrating on football in April/May(Spring Ball) and late July through early January how is he supposed to improve his skills and earn his minutes on a top 10 team? -

How many guys are top 100 types in football and basketball?
Antonio Gates was going to go to MSU and play both sports but Saban said he could only play football so he went to eastern MI. He was very talented in both obviously but I don't believe a viewed as a top 100 type (or else how do Izzo and Saban let him walk to eastern?).
Maybe Chris Carter (who decided to stick to football even though he intended to do both)... not sure if he was viewed as the equal to a top 100 in hoops way back then or not though.. hard to say.
Tony Gonzalez played at least 3 years of hoops but I'm pretty sure he wasn't a top 100 type out of HS either.
Charlie ward played college hoops (drafted in first round), football (heisman winner), and even baseball for florida state. I do not know if he was a top 100 type recruit in either sport though.
Point is, What Drake Harris is, as projected by HS scouting and ranking, is extremely rare, and not what Trannon was or most duel sport examples are where they are really good in one sport and servicable/useful in another.

Just curious, but how DOES one play football and basketball when the seasons overlap? I gotta think he's gonna be all football in the fall but wouldn't that kind of just make him an extra body on the Basketball practice squad?

Exactly, not sure why my earlier legitimate question was down voted, but it's obvious not many people here have ever been on a D1 team in a major conference. If you expect to excel at either of these sports you have to pick one and sacrifice the other. If you pick both you will be sacrificing both. If he wants to be a pro in either sport he will have to pick one. Or he could be like McNabb and play football and ride the pine in basketball or the other way around. But he will not be the superstar that he is in both sports that he is in high school in college. I hope he proves me wrong because I would have the pleasure of watching one of the most amazing athletes ever.
