'14 MI WR Drake Harris (Michigan Verbal)

  • Jandy said...

Anyone know Harris' playoff schedule? With Booker visiting for the Wisconsin game, I wonder if Drake might as well, seeing as how they're good friends.

The tournament continues tomorrow and districts finish on Friday (No games on Thursday). Then regional games are the 11th, 13th, 19th and the semifinal at Breslin on the 22nd, the finals on the 23rd.

It could benefit us if GRC can make it to the Breslin. Having him play on our hardwood could have him second guessing giving up his first love in basketball.

  • By the way, Drake might be interested to learn that today Devin Gardner just got a med redshirt = extra year of eligibility. No chance Drake Harris wants to stunt his career growth trying to catching passes from another run-first QB.

  • He has really, really, REALLY been pushing the idea that he is done with basketball. I think it's time to bury those theories and stop relying on him having this epiphany that he'll want to play in college.

He's a better passer, than you give him credit for. I'm not convinced, he will come to Michigan, but the fact Gardner has another year, won't hurt Michigan's chances.

I, think, he, would, rather, catch, passes, from, a, true, quarterback.

That's probably a moot point as he had a TD/INT ratio of 2-1 and completed 60% of his passes. To keep things in perspective, cousins was a career 64% guy. He's got a decent arm.

  • This isnt what anyone wants to hear and I'm one of the biggest culprits on here but we've got to lay off this thread. It's only going to drive you nuts. This isn't wolverine 247 where that rookie Steve Lorenz is going to crank out a Drake Harris article three times a week. Until next fall, there is no news. To us it seems inconceivable an MSU fan could commit to scUM, frankly the thought makes me ill. However, they've closed the gap and he's gonna have a ton of people in his ear to go blue. Following his recruitment every day is the equivelant of popping your head out the car window and watching every white line on the road. Your going to get sick. Keep your eyes on the road and follow the occasional sign.

What's funny to me is that the people telling him to go blue are saying that he should because UM is better than MSU in football. Recent history would say otherwise. In the past 5 years, we've turned out more NFL receivers, lead the series 4-1, won the B1G, won the legends division....UM hasn't done anything.

If Harris wants to play football in state, win, and go to the NFL, MSU is the right move for him.

That's the thing, this kid is what? 16 years old. He wasn't old enough to remember when Michigan had a better program than MSU. From middle school to now, MSU has been the best program in the state, those are his formative years and that's what he knows. These kids don't remember the early 2000s much less the 90s or 70s. The 70s and 90s mean about as much to high school kids these days as the 50s or 60s do, squat.

  • His coach is an MSU fan, he grew up on the green side... he's spending his 3rd straight week in AA - and has loved his time there.

We'll never understand the mind of a 17 year old.

  • Wish we had drake recruiting for the good guys right now. He could help wrap up Watkins to flank him at WR and put his stamp on what could be one of the best classes in MSU history.

I think the visit this weekend is a big one.

This is likely when he tries out rooting for UM against MSU for the first time. How that goes for him could greatly impact whether UM has a legit chance.

    To a UM writer;

"Yeah, it was real tough picking who to cheer for," he said with a laugh.

I'm slightly encouraged by this. Usually, a player would cheer for the home team, as Harris did at tBreslin for the UM@MSU game (I believe). The fact he had a hard time choosing who to root for @UM makes me think he's still an MSU fan at heart.

Once again, b/c of this, I could see Alabama being a threat, but I'm not as sure about UM.

To echo this, usually when a player conducts an interview with a certain school's writer, they slant their comments toward that school. The fact that Harris was speaking to a UM guy and was 50/50 says a lot.

The only thing that's going to say a lot is when he comes out and says he is firmly committed to MSU and is ready to help recruit the rest of the class or if he says he is committing elsewhere..

That said, it's clear the kid enjoys going to bball games, so I don't think too much should be read into his attending multiple UM games in a row.. I think it'd be helpful if we could get him to a spring practice, let him watch Tyler O'Connor throw for a bit.

Considering he committed to Izzo and would be a 100% solid commit if he were playing basketball, I don't imagine him cheering for Michigan at all during this game. However, I don't think reflects on what his decision will be with regards to football.

  • A snippet from a Rivals article by their UF site published today:

"I have been talking to the Michigan coaches a lot, I talk to Florida's coaches a lot too," said Harris. "Ohio State and Notre Dame and have been in more contact. Georgia and also Alabama have been putting some pressure on me as well. I talk to these coaches on a weekly basis, sometimes even every day."

As strange as it may sound, Harris stated that while he may still be committed to Michigan State, he doesn't speak with the Spartans as much.

"I am talking to schools other than Michigan State a lot more," said Harris. "It is a soft verbal right now. I am finishing basketball season before I make any decision on what I want to do, so I don't know."

...And I'm not cherry-picking the article to make it sound bad. Either he said nothing else about MSU or they cut whatever he might have said out.

  • That's literally awful news IMO. It sounds like once again we're getting out worked, which, seems to be a theme over the last 3 cycles. Say what you want but the fact that he's a commit here and isn't hearing from our damn staff every day pisses me off. He's not the kind of kid attracting the kind of attention that you lay off.

You have absolutely no idea what's going on in this recruitment or what our coaches have done.

To me, "I am talking to schools other than Michigan State a lot more," means he's talking to other schools outside MSU more than he did in the past.. not that he doesn't speak with MSU much, which is what the sentence prior basically states

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. How do you know our coaches don't call frequently and he simply hasn't responded as much as he used to and is more receptive to other coaches? Or, as Cope said, he is talking to us a bunch but the way you interpreted it is incorrect.

Your right I don't but I pay for enough sites to read enough info to know for certain he isnt talking much to our coaches or about our coaches so spin it how you will but we've fallen behind here. Fact.

Well I'd be encouraged to know our coaches call every day but suspect he doesn't reach back out to them because he stated they never talk. So that would actually be worse IMO and everyone elses that actually knows what they're talking about.

    Skip1856

  • He's still committed to us. Until that changes we have a very goo shot.

  • It just sounds like he is talking to schools other than us a lot now... That's what one usually does when recruitment is opened back up. Does not mean he does not talk to our coaches, does not mean we are being out worked. Calm down people the sky is not falling. Would love to have him here, but if he chooses else where the football program will not cease to exist.

  • I know people think that Drake is 100% giving up B-ball and maybe he is, but he's went off for 62 points in his last 2 games. He may be a better Football player, but he's a legit top 50 basketball recruit too. Hope his team makes a nice run in the playoffs and he reconsiders, because he could still be a McDonald's AA in basketball potentially.
