'14 MI WR/CB Damon Webb (tOSU Verbal)

This doesn't sound all that promising for us. We've got a lot of ground to make up on this one.

There's a lot of ground to make up on any Cass Tech prospect. Same script, different scene.

  • Just confirmed that Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech junior standout athlete Damon Webb has arrived on Michigan State's campus.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Webb holds early offers from Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU and West Virginia.

Michigan State offered Webb this past June when the Spartan staff watched him camp at Sound Mind Sound Body. Webb also camped at Michigan State back in June, making this Webb's second trip to Michigan State this summer.

  • Damon Webb talks Michigan State visit

Detroit (MI) Cass Tech 2014 CB Damon Webb has been to Michigan State in the past, but Saturdays visit was a more in-depth experience.

  • Webb's dad is an MSU fan - Damon Webb was an MSU fan until he transfered to Cass Tech, last year. MSU has a chance. However, Rico Beard said contrary to what UM people are saying, he feels that LSU leads for Webb. So that might be a sign to support his opinion.

Normally distance is a factor but his mother is a baton rouge native correct? I believe I read his grandmother and aunt are still in the area. Nuthin like granny's cooking to cure homesickness.
On a personal note, I've been there twice and although it's a crazy game experience it's potentially the shittiest town I've ever been in. It's awful.

  • I was at the Cass/B.Rice game last night, and from what I saw, Damon Webb is the best player between the two teams. He is a flat out playmaker. He had two 45+ yard touchdowns, one off a screen. He also had a FF, a FR, and an interception. Whoever gets him is getting a GREAT football player.
Jon Reschke also impressed me a lot. He was all over the field, and he has great instincts. Dawson and Finely played very well also.

Where did you read his dad was a MSU fan?

    Big M

  • Rico Beard - I don't know to what extent, though. Was he actually a fan, or did he very casually root for MSU (without really caring?)?

Same with Damon Webb - Rico says he grew up preferring MSU to UM; but that doesn't mean that he cared all that much. Might have been a really casual thing.

Rico is actually pretty tight with the Webb family - so he is certainly in a strong position to know. He has been talking about Damon since WAY before he transferred to Cass Tech, as well.

  • this is another example of what I was talking about with you a long while back, Big M. UM writers aren't lying but they only give you a version of the truth about these kids - not the entire truth.

The best example of this I can think of is Notre Dame. Max Bullough was a big time recruit. Max's uncle and grandfather both played at Notre Dame - his grandfather was an All American for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame writers kept writing about Max's connection to Notre Dame, and ran quotes where Max said he grew up liking Notre Dame.

Well, all of that was true. But these writers failed to mention that Max also had a grandfather, father, and two uncles that played football at MSU. Lots of poorly informed Notre Dame fans were actually surprised when he committed early to MSU haha. Because their writers only wrote part of the truth - the part that catered to their readers.

And before you say it, Yes! MSU writers do the same things :)

Sounds like he can do it in camps and in games!

  • I haven't formed an opinion on MSU 247 writers, yet - cept Kurelic and Ebbling. Ebbling is the best. Wasn't Kurelic involved in the ratings fixing scandal at Rivals? However, I meant MSU writers in general. They are writing for an audience :)

Good to hear. I think he's going to be a real players wherever he ends up. Seems like it may be an uphill battle with UM/LSU right now (from what I've read), but hopefully the staff keeps working on him. I think he's going to be a real difference maker at the next level.

  • yup sounds like LSU/UM are the teams to beat. We know who the competition is - let's beat them.

Sam Webb is a slappy fanboy disguised as a journalist. The fact he is employed by detnews shows what a sham reporting has become. His praise of a certain scUM QB commit is reminiscent of Jerry Sandusky's interest in at risk children of The Second Mile.
