'14 PA RB Shai McKenzie (MSU offer)

  • Washington (Pa.) junior running back Shai McKenzie was offered by Michigan State today. 247Sports' Sean Fitz just sent me a text that he confirmed the offer. The 5-foot-11 210-pound McKenzien holds additional offers from the likes of Duke, Maryland, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Mike Bosnic wanted to make one thing clear to his Washington High School football team soon after his Little Prexies ended their season with a loss in the WPIAL Class AA championship game last Friday at Heinz Field.

Star running back Shai McKenzie provided some of Washington's best offensive highlights. A sensational junior, he led the WPIAL in rushing during the regular season and finished the year with 2,683 yards and scored 42 touchdowns.

"Shai really showed that he's an elite running back," Bosnic said. "He's getting a lot of Division I scholarship offers and will be a BCS-school recruit.

"What impressed me the most is how much he continues to improve season to season and game to game. He's developed a great work ethic and has a great desire to be the best."

The scoop: McKenzie, whose first name is pronounced "Shy," led the WPIAL in rushing during the regular season and has helped the Little Prexies reach the Class AA title game. He has 2,656 yards on 214 attempts (12.4 average) and has scored 42 touchdowns. He has 3,859 yards in two seasons.

I don't get the impression from anything I've read they'll be what's holding us back from landing this kid. If anything, the comments about not wanting to play in the cold were a little more telling of how his recruitment could develop.

It's like intentional neglect. Probably has nothing to do with us grabbing a few studs from your neck of the woods lately.

  • Gorman: McKenzie matures into national recruit
    By Tribune-Review
    Published: Sunday, March 10, 2013, 12:01 a.m.

Mike Bosnic might be a bit overwhelmed by the way Shai McKenzie's recruitment has picked up.

The Washington tailback has matured from WPIAL star to national recruit, with the latest of his 28 scholarship offers coming from Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

McKenzie rushed for 2,689 yards and 42 touchdowns to lead the Little Prexies to the WPIAL Class AA final as a junior. McKenzie has the ideal combination of size, speed and power that colleges covet, not to mention a 3.5 grade-point average.

    GMSparty12

  • Ranked as Number 7 recruit in Pennsylvania by PennLive.

    More from PennLive

SHAI McKENZIE, WASHINGTON 5-11 210 pounds

The No. 39 ranked running back in the country recently reached 30 official offers after rushing for 2,689 yards and 42 touchdowns as a junior.

A downhill runner who is best suited for a team that runs an I-Formation, McKenzie still managed to average 9.6 yards per carry. He has the rare combination of power and speed.

With that many offers, McKenzie will have his pick of schools. Depth chart will most likely play a key role in his final decision. But he's not in a hurry to make a decision and McKenzie's initial plans are to wait until after the season to announce his choice.

  • Washington running back keeps eye on Pitt
    By Kevin Gorman
    Published: Tuesday, April 2, 2013, 4:33 p.m.

When Pennsylvania prep career rushing leader Rushel Shell decided to transfer from Pitt, another WPIAL star tailback was paying close attention.

Washington's Shai McKenzie, one of the nation's most coveted prospects and Pitt's top target in the Class of 2014, called Shell's decision a “big surprise” but said the Panthers remain among his favorites.

“Him leaving is probably a disappointment to a lot of people but it could be better for me recruiting-wise and fit,” said McKenzie, who plans to visit Pitt this weekend. “They're the hometown team. I know I'm a priority, and Pitt is slim at the running back position so I know they're going to recruit me more.”

McKenzie cuts list to five ...... Kincade picks Akron

Written by Mike White on Sunday, 16 June 2013 5:54 pm.

Pitt plays Florida State in the football season opener Labor Day. It looks like Pitt also might have to battle Florida State to land a top recruit from Western Pennsylvania.

Shai McKenzieWashington running back Shai McKenzie (pictured) had scholarship offers from colleges across the country. He has narrowed his list of favorites to five and they are - Pitt, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Arkansas. However, McKenzie and both Washington coach Mike Bosnic said Florida State is the top choice - right now. Pitt is next in line.

Word on the street is that Shai was blown away by his visit to F$U. I think STATE knows this is an uphill battle and has moved on to James and London. I actually think i also saw that he named a Top 4 and STATE was not included.. Maybe Spartan_in_PA can share some info
