2012-13 Michigan State Scholarship Chart: Fall Preseason

Where did you hear that about Kittredge? I have been assuming he would be but all the info to this point has been inconclusive.

I thought Dantonio mentioned it in his NSD presser.

thanks for the efforts Martin .... interesting way to view the team. First impressions. We are THIN at OT and DT. 2013 will have to be loaded with talent ... some of which may need to play immediately. JUCO or two even?

    Not necessarily immediately.

2013 we will load up in the trenches, I agree.

However, at OT we will still have Burkland, Conway, Kieler, France, Dennis and possibly Clark who can play in 2013.
At DT we will have a lot of bodies to play in 2013: Fennell, Kittredge,Ramondo, Clemons, Knox, Scarpinato, and there's talk that maybe Heath will be able to play a little inside.

So regardless, we should be able to redshirt all of our 2013 trench recruits.

  • Coach D mentioned in his signing day presser, I believe, Langford possibly moving back to RB this season. Obviously not official and wouldn't update anything until seen on a depth chart, but something to keep in mind.

  • love the chart.

question tho, I find it confusing that you put the 2012 recruits to the right of the seniors...would it not flow better if they were to the left of the freshman so you can better see the progression from left to right?

I move them over once we start receiving 2013 recruits. For me I like to see what positions we are bringing in vs. what seniors are graduating. That is why incoming recruits are next to the seniors.

  • I think that were in good position with DT and have enough talent at OL were we can move some guys around in the future. But I can see the coaching staff going after OL, DL, and TE heavily in 2013.
I just hope we get a Blue Chip RB to put the " ! " on it.

I don't see Dantonio going to JC route very often.

This is about how I would like to see scholarships break down using that arbitrary 17 scholarship figure:

    1 QB
    2 RB
0 FB - I could see one if no one switches positions to FB, but I think someone will
    1 WR
    2 TE
2 OT - Would like to see both have the potential to play LT
    2 G - One of which could be a C/G combo
    2 DT
    2 DE
    1 LB
    1 CB
    1 S

If we were to gain addition scholarships I could see a additional CB/S combo type player, a second LB, an additional scholarship for a kicker or punter with Conway graduating. I also would not be surprised if one of our walk-on long snappers earns a scholarship this season.

    Yeah,
I would say my 3 biggest wants for 2013 would be a highly rated RB, TE, and LT.

Oh, and while we are at it how about a highly rated DE!weights

Yeah, looks like I will be moving Langford and Lippett back to offense in a few months, just thought I would wait until it is officially changed on the roster.

Not doubting you, i think Kittredge will be on scholarship as well but I did not see anything about him glancing through the transcript. I am definitely keeping an eye out for news on him, if you see something official let me know and I will edit.

There was a Q&A with coachd posted on ESPN today in which he was asked about pursuing JUCOs. His response was basically that they took a look at what was available in the JUCO ranks and did not see suitable players available to fit the needs of the team and that he did not plan on adding any JUCOs this year.

Our direct depth isn't immediately an area of concern, I agree with you there Macks.

However 2013 should have a sense of urgency, as OL recruits generally respond best when they don't play until their 3rd year with the program (as RS-Soph's). Considering this, I think OT, and to a lesser extent OG as well, is the single biggest priority for the 2013 class.

I would add Kings Jr. to the list. Coach D said he would see the field. He has great hands and his change of direction is very quick. The comparison would be to Keyshawn Martin. ESPN (i know they suck) said Kings lacked speed.....i don't know the film they were watching but the kid looks blazing fast to me.

yeah, good old espn....Holtz said earlier tonight that schools only complain about Myer's recruiting tactics because they "can't compete" He then cited Northwestern (my 2nd favorite big ten school and coach) as well as Indiana as examples. Too bad the story that was being discussed was about Bielema and Coach D'.......it's just another example of their complete assholery and ineptitude. They really do suck balls.

If Burkland or Conway beat Fou Fonoti out for starting RT this year, he could have a red shirt year next year. France and Burkland have two more years so barring injuries we are good through 2013. This depth chart will hopefully help us get some beef this recruiting season.

Higgins looks like a nice Tackle in the making ot me. 6'5" 305.....I am thinking Road Grader in two years.

Higgins will start his career at OG. He may develop into a RT or maybe just be a monster road grader guard.

  • I just hope that Higgins recovers from his injury. We can worry about his position after that.

  • It now looks like MSU will end up signing 14-15 players for 2013.
Here is how it may break down by position :

    QB - 1
    RB - 2
WR - 1 or 0 (Will only take an elite WR in 2013)
    TE - 1
    OG - 1
    OT - 2
    DT - 1
    DE - 2
    LB - 2
    CB - 1
    S - 1

This doesn't count early declarations, i'm assuming.

Gholston seems likely. There's the off chance that maybe Bell or Lewis may have monster seasons and declare.

Needless to say, this class seems to be similar in size or small than the 2012 class.

    Fair enough.

Was Powell recruited as a CB or S?
Also, I find it strange that now that Kugler is off the board, the staff offered Miller and Benemoch at OG before Dillard, who is blowing up. What does the staff really think about Dillard?

Powell was recruited as a S but may also be able to play CB at the next level. He is the type of big, versatile athlete the MSU staff likes to work with @ DB.
I know what the staff thinks about Dillard but won't divulge that info on a public forum.

Fair enough. Is it likely that Dillard won't be getting an offer then? Benemoch had some nice things to say about us but then again we haven't had much luck in Texas as of late.

On the topic of Benemoch - what is your feeling on a 6'6 OG? He's a huge guy but sometimes being that tall in the interior might not be the best thing, correct?

Just not going to talk about Dillard here. Recruits and their families and friends read these forums.
Sometimes height can be a disadvantage @ OG when you have to root out shorter stout DT's in the short yardage running game. The key is keeping your pad level low consistently. Benenoch may be able to play right OT at the next level. Having said that, he is a massive young man and for the most part should be effective @ OG. The trend in college football now is that all of the OL positions are getting bigger and bigger.
Note : Chris McDonald is 6'-5" and does a good job as an OG.
