2012 Preferred Walk-On Recruits

  • Since Coach Dantonio arrived at MSU, he has been able to recruit some preferred walk-on players who have become contributors to MSU's success on the field.
Some of those contributing preferred walk-on players include; Jonathan Strayhorn, Dan Conroy, Todd Anderson, Kyler Elsworth and Jordan Sanders.
MSU has a solid group of walk-on players being red-shirted who could become contributors in 2012, such as :
    DT James Kittredge
    CB Chris Laneaux
    WR Takudzwa Kubvoruno
    FB Trevon Pendleton
    WR Spencer Elliott
    OG Kyle Lints
    WR A. J. Troup
    WR Jordan Benton
    LB Pat Rhomberg
With limited scholarships available for 2012, MSU will be looking to add 4-5 preferred walk-ons for 2012. Here are some potential candidates :
MI, K Evan Fischer - Has agreed to be a preferred walk-on at MSU for 2012.
WI, RB/S Marcus Horne - Currently has a preferred walk-on offer from MSU
VA, LB/RB Darius Parson - Making an unofficial visit to MSU on 12/9/11.
NJ, RB/DB Tevin Shaw - May receive a scholarship offer if MSU misses on some other recruits on their board.
    MI, RB Juwan Lewis
    FL, RB Brandon Radcliff
    JUCO, RB Korey Ringer
Note : MSU would really like to add a preferred walk-on RB for 2012.
FL, WR Trey Griffey - Has made an unofficial visit to MSU. May receive a scholarship offer if MSU misses on some of the highly ranked WR's they are currently recruiting.
    MI, WR Shane Barron
    MI, WR Tyree Monroe
    MI, DT Stephon Hall
    OH, DT Terrell Jackson
    OH, DT Nathan Hoff
    MI, LB Nathan Ricketts
    MI, LB/S Amos Houston
Note : MSU definitely wants to add a walk-on P since back-up walk-on P Kyle Selden graduates after this season. So far no one specific but the staff has their eyes on some HS P's.

    Korey Ringer is Javon's nephew.
Korey has just completed his Soph. year playing at GRCC. He will have 3 years to play 2 at the next level.

  • If we need a kicker what about Kenny Allen from Fenton? It shows his only offer is from Oregon St.

I know Kenny personally. He's going to scUM sadly. one of the top kickers punters in the nation for 2012

By NCAA rule college football teams are allowed to have 105 players on their active roster.
They are limited to 85 scholarship players per year. The other 20 players on the roster could technically be preferred walk-ons. Generally, 5 or 6 of those non-scholarship players on the roster are regular walk-ons and the rest are preferred walk-ons.
Usually the regular walk-ons are players who are invited to try out for the team in the fall and earn a roster spot. Sometimes these regular walk-on players eventually earn a preferred walk-on status.
All walk-on players can eventually earn a scholarship based on their performance.
Some walk-on players who eventually earned scholarships at MSU were Travis Keys, Blair White, Jonathan Strayhorn, Dan Conroy, Kyler Elsworth, and Todd Anderson to name a few off the top of my head.

Damn that sucks. I remember hearing good things about him from the kicking camps.

  • Kenny attended two years of States kicking camp. From what I hear, he did very well and provided highlight videos but no one approached him. He was very disappointed as Michigan State was on his list at the time
