Breakdown By Position For The Remaining 2013 Scholarships

The recruiting landscape is just too fluid and still too early in the process to predict which DE's MSU will eventually sign for 2013. Here are the DE's that I like best in this order :
    IN, Elijah Daniel
    WI, A. J. Natter
    NJ, Tashawn Bauer
    WI, Alec James
    MD, Kevin Robbins, Jr.
    NJ, Dejuan Drennon
    OH, Tracy Sprinkle
    IL, Josh Augusta (DE/TE/OT)
OH, Matt Miller (May also project to OL at the next level)
    WI, Chikwe Obasih
WI, Owen Salzwedel (R. J. Shelton's HS teammate)

What do the recent offers for the top guys do? Such as, tOSU for Sprinkle and Florida state for Elijah Daniel.

After Fou graduates there will be 3 OT's with game experience returning in 2013. Skyler Burkland, Dan France and Hank Conway. No problem for 2013. It gets a little more dicey @ OT in 2014. Hank Conway may be granted a 6th year of eligibility on a medical appeal for 2014. Note ; Not very likely that France will ever get moved inside.

In '14 you'd figure Kieler is a RS Soph and able to contribute.

The reason you get the '13 guys is that so they'll be ready to take over as RS Sophs in '15.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • I think the on field play the next two years are key. Coach D has a strong team, but needs some break throughs the next few years with elite talent recruiting wise. I believe we have the skill set to excel next year and the following but after that we have big voids to fill.

Now that is always true in college sports, but we are going up against stiff recruiting challenges. Victories, especially against scum the next two years are key.

    I like our chances.

Even with our great home schedule this year, I am making a point to be in AA this year. This years victory will not be well received by our maidenly aunt.

  • I can't remember the last time we hit Wisconsin this hard. I like it though.

The offer to Matt Miller was at OG, so I don't think MSU is looking at him at DE.

Here are the positions MSU is looking to fill with the remaining 2013 scholarships :

    QB - 0
RB - 0 or 1 (The staff would take an elite level RB like David Willaims. Otherwise, they are done @ RB.
WR - 1 or 0 (The staff would like an elite level WR)
TE - 1 (The staff may look to take 2 depending on how things develop @ the TE position this Fall)
    OT - 2
    OG - 0
DT - 0 or 1 (The staff would take an elite level DT. Otherwise, they won't sign a DT in 2013)
    DE - 2
    MLB - 0
    OLB - 0
S - 1 (The staff would like a prototype SS in this class)
    CB - 1

updated would probably look like this

So some of the top guys left on our board have to be; Norman, Williams, Daniel, Robbins, Hicks.

Not sure who the safety would be, but I imagine the staff will take some guys we haven't heard much about with the remaining spots.

I would be ecstatic with a finish like that.

Antonio Allen, Warfield, and poss Delton Williams as an ATH.

    Williams is likely an H-back.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

If CDB is correct (and I do trust his info) and we're taking only 1 Cornerback then Darian Hicks is the higher prior until he makes his decision than Warfield although if possible I'd take both.

Being called a sunshine blower is not insulting to me and I'm proud to be one.

    WR: Gladney?
    TE:
    OT: Norman
    DE: Daniel, Robbins
    CB: Hicks
    S: Allen

Kind of a best-case thing but it seems fairly possible as well. Would Warfield possibly think about coming in as a wide receiver?

I think this is conjecture. I seem to remember CBD saying that he thinks MSU is recruiting him solely as a SS.

  • I'd say we need 2 Stud DT's..You can NEVER have enough Stud defensive players...Let's reload for the future!

Respectfully disagree. MSU needs 2 DEs and maybe 1 DT.

MSU took 4 DTs in the '11 class. They're RS FR this year and will be playing until 2015.

MSU took 1 DT in the '12 class, Fennel. He'll be playing until 2016.

Kittredge is a RS Soph this year. He'll be playing until 2014.

MSU could take 1 DT in 2013 and be more than fine. 2 in '14 would be necessary then. Also, if MSU had the normal 20-22 schollies to give, I'd be right with you. However, with only 15-16 in this class, MSU has to put priority on DE and OT first.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

CBD, let's say we don't land an elite DT this year. How comfortable should we feel taking just one DT (Fennell in 2012 class) over two recruiting classes? That's putting a hell of a lot of faith in our 2011 DT class, isn't it? It also means that we better be very confident in our ability to get more than one quality DT in our 2014 class. I'm just not sure why we're not taking a similar approach to the one we seem to take with our DBs, where we generally have been taking 1 or 2 CBs plus 1 or 2 Safeties each year. What are your thoughts on this?

Hurst, Woods, Adams . . . any DT with an offer right now would be considered.

  • Most ideal/realistic situation would be what?

    RB/WR- I really like Boyd
    OT- Riley Norman and ?
    OG- Miller
    DT- Hurst or Woods
    DE- Daniel and Robbins
DB- Warfield or Hicks (I'm guessing Banks would be our 3rd choice?)
    S- Williams

I would like to think this would be probable. I would be stoked if the class ended like this. coachd
