Breakdown By Position For The Remaining 2013 Scholarships

  • Up-Dated 6/21/12.
    Here are the positions MSU is looking to fill with the remaining 2013 scholarships :

    QB - 0
    RB - 0 .
    WR - 1 (The staff wants a top level WR)
    TE - 0 (MSU probably won't take a TE in 2013 after adding Jamare Mills for 2012)
    OT - 2
    OG - 1
    DT - 1 (The staff wants a top level DT since Ramondo has transferred out)
    DE - 2
    MLB - 0
    OLB - 0
    CB - 0
    S - 1 (The staff wants a prototype SS in this class, Delton Williams was the # 1 priority. The staff might also consider Solomon Warfield as a SS.)
    K - 1 or 0 (The staff was hoping to sign a Preferred Walk-on K for 2013 since Dan Conroy will be a Sr. in 2012 and Kevin Muma will be a Sr. in 2013. Now they may have to offer a scholarship to a K to get a good one).

    MSU will eventually sign 8 or 9 more recruits in the 2013 class

    - Are we still recruiting Delton Williams after his legal mishaps?
    - Is Kyle Peko still on our radar or would we prefer a true freshman DT?
    - Does LT moving to DE affect our DE/LB recruiting at all?

    Jamare Mills is taking courses @ LCC to finish up his qualification and enrollment process. All indications are that he is doing fine and will be able to enroll at MSU sometime in Aug.
    The MSU Athletic Dept. is in a "no comment" mode concerning the Delton Williams situation. His legal issues need to be resolved first.
    DT Kyle Peko is still being recruited by MSU. There is a possibility that the staff would take Peko and a HS DT.
    LT's move to DE won't have any effect on DE or LB recruiting. The staff still wants 2 DE's in the 2013 class.

    Lamar Robbins is being recruited as an ATH. He could be the prototype SS MSU is looking for or contribute as a WR, Another versatile player who could play defense or offense.

  • I'm sure once Williams' legal issues are resolved his recruiting will pick back up. I still think he's a good bet for the SS spot for MSU.

    As discussed in countless other threads, I think MSU's real needs for the rest of the class is OT and DE. There are still talented guys on the board that MSU sits well with (especially at DE).

    I understand the school's desire to take a step back publicly about D. Williams. However, everybody make a mistake but it doesn't necessarily make them a bad person.

    I don't know the kid but he looks like a talented athlete capable of becoming an all-conference player if he makes football his #1 priority. For his sake, I hope we still have a spot for him when he gets his legal issues squared away.

    What's the sense in waiting on this kid? Legal issues? Jesus man he's not part of a child sex scandal. He was a high school kid caught with a small amount of weed. There are no "legal issues". He's going to pay a hundred bucks or so and do some community service. Nothing that should or will have anything to do with his ability to play football. I for one, think slow playing him till this is behind him is a mistake.

    It sounds like the staff hadn't seen what they were looking for in a TE, or received mutual interest, until seeing Chmura in camp. Glad to hear he has seemingly recovered from his ACL tear. Would love to get his pledge before his recruitment blows up. His measurables seem pretty impressive for a guy that can't be 100% yet.

    MSU probably wasn't going to sign a TE in the 2013 class.
    When Chmura worked out at MSU's camp, the staff felt that he deserved a scholarship offer. He was the best TE prospect at any of the camps.
    If he goes elsewhere, then again MSU will probably be out of the market for a TE in 2013.
    Note : MSU may offer IL, TE Danny Friend but they will offer him more as a OT and not necessarily as a TE.
