Norte Dame is also supposed to be very strong for OLB Alex Anzalone as well. I think it's safe to say that if he goes there, we are the clear front runner. I believe strongly that if our staff offers Khari Bailey soon as a DT, we can get a package deal there.
A twitter feed from the main spartantailgate page (not sure how to link...sorry) mentions LSU as being in "hot pursuit" of Cooper.
Stay in the Midwest Demetrious. You'll look great in green and white.
Another example of how fucking stupid these ratings can be. Sooooooooo much talent in the south. Yet, LSU's top ranked player is from the north and now they're in "hot pursuit" of an underrated northern DE. Let's just hope the kid is smart enough to know LSU is an overrated collection of stiffs. Not opinion, evidenced by the fact that we had more players drafted last year and have 3 top 25 draft picks already on Kipers big board.
LSU just added another defensive end commitment today. They already got 3 defensive ends in this class.

Cooper sounds like the classic late bloomer. He will probably end up a high 3 or low 4 star recruit. The MAC schools were all over him though and I am guessing his size was keeping big boys away until he performed in camps. He will still probably need a redshirt year and 30-40 lbs of bulk. Would have been nice to have locked him up after sound mind and body. He might extend the process now with all the new interest.
He will no doubt extend the process now that he is getting attention from the SEC. I hate to think about losing this kid to southern teams, but with our lack of recruiting success in the Chicago area I won't hold my breath that we will land this kid. With James most likely going to the Badgers (who are really crushing d line recruiting this year) what do you guys think our best chances are with D Ends?
Right - I'll believe we can land a Chicago kid who isn't an Allen when I see it. It's unacceptable how horrendous we are at recruiting Illinois in general, but it is what it is.
Anzalone verbaled to ND. This bodes well with MSU and Cooper.
FYI, Notre Dame recruited AA as an ILB rather than an OLB. That said, they do have 3 LBs and 1 DE committed already.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Thanks for the clarification.
He and Khairi Bailey are visiting Purdue today, don't like the fact that they have offered both and we are still waiting to see on Bailey. I really like Cooper and think Bailey has the body to put on good DT weight to slide over. Hope they offer soon, but with the impending pledge of Salmon most likely, who knows. Gotta get both on campus together again soon.
If Devyn Salmon pledges to MSU, it isn't likely that MSU will ever offer Bailey.
The staff will continue to recruit Kyle Peko.
Cooper is hoping and waiting for the possibility that MSU will offer his HS teammate Khari Bailey in a package deal. Cooper may wait himself out of a spot with MSU. Cooper could end up at Purdue with Bailey since both have a Purdue offer.
Unfortunately, Roushar won't even push Cooper for a commit even with limited scholarships available. Could be a lose-lose situation for MSU and Cooper.
Do you think Ruben Dunbar is a possibility at all for us?
MSU is still recruiting Dunbar and still in the mix for him.
CBD, sounds to me like you think MSU may strike out on most of their DE targets. May lose Cooper because Roushar can't sell or recruit to save his life, huh?
I agree 100% it would be nice to take both, Bailey would need to put on 60lbs and that seems like a ton of weight to have to put on. I might be off but wouldn't you agree?
Hey CBD, how do you know Roushar isn't pushing? And, if he is not pushing, don't you think MD makes that final decision whether to push or not?
Hint - It's cause nobody is confident in Roushar's recruiting ability.
Yeah, if MD needs to give Roushar a push to give Cooper a push, you'd expect he'd do it. CBD needs to clarify.
Just based on Roushar's track record in recruiting Chicagoland and IL. During the 5 years of Roushar recruiting there, MSU has landed just 2 recruits (Arthur Ray and Jack Allen).
I've met Roushar and he's not exactly Mr. Personality. He could put you to sleep quicker than Ambien.
An organ grinder's monkey would be more interesting to a recruit than Roushar is.
Not even going to get into the long list of misses that Roushar has had in IL.
Tell us how you really feel.
If everything Bailey said is true, Cooper most likely won't decide until halfway into the season since Bailey wants to wait and see if he gets an offer from MSU.
If Salmon and/or Munger/Cook pull the trigger, I don't think Bailey will get an offer. Bailey is still 40lbs from getting an offer and 80lbs from being a full size B1G DT. That's a lot of growth and you don't know if he can hold that weight on his frame or if he can do it without losing athleticism.
Why does nobody think Bailey could be a DE.
