Cooper is unrated because they only rate people that are lower rated (2 star, 3 star but unranked in positional rankings) without a full rankings upradge. Helmholdt saw Cooper in person and loved him; so his ranking had to wait until Rivals did a complete rankings update.
I think they just did a rankings bump, not a full updated ranking. Did anyone else go from unrated to rated?
You have to remember that Cooper only checked in at 203lbs and will need alot of weight and strength work in the future. The camps are not necessarily the best eval for 1 on 1 matchups since its really not game situations. If he beat a bunch of 4 star OLmen 1 on 1 it may be because of his quickness but you are not going to line up in the B1G and play DE at 203lbs. When he gets to the needed 250-260lb weight range will he still have the same agility and quickness that he has now? His offer sheet has not blown up yet either so I would expect they would rate him as a mid to high 3 star with the understanding that he is going to need some development. Probably a 3rd year contributer. Alot of the 4 star DEs are much closer to contributing and many as true frosh if they have the size and weight already.

I have seen all your posts here and on the trcmb and I don’t think you ever say anything positive about our recruits and if you do it is a backhanded compliment. You are always boosting um while downgrading MSU. You have been called out before so stop pretending to be a Spartan fan and go away.
Cooper is barely a 3, but they're gonna bump Channing stribling from a 2 to a 4 star after one good game luginbil went to. ScUM fans, Jesus these guys kill me some times. Same fans currently dogging Clifton Garrett because he's sans Michigan offer. Not bright.
This is all because cooper dominated LTT at SMSB.

Helmholdt directly said that Cooper and Chmura weren't rated because he really likes them both and they will both be high three stars when the next rankings are done. You don't need to guess at the reasons. He specifically said that is the reason they are currently unranked.
Not yet, waiting to see his transcripts.
I don't know why this post is getting attacked, this is pretty spot logic if/when Cooper receives his Rivals ranking.
The way the depth chart looks, if Cooper were to become a Spartan, he probably wouldn't be a contributor until his RS Soph (3rd) year. That's great news, IMO, for Cooper and MSU. It means the Spartans have good depth/talent at DE and gives Cooper the time to add strength but more importantly, learn the nuances of playing MSU defense.
Yeah - I read else where that Illinois offered, but I think that report was a little premature. I would assume they will once they see the grades but I guess we'll see.
He's going to be a 5.7 3-star. He's currently rated the #24 Weakside DE on Rivals, and #23 and #25 are both 5.7 3-stars. For whatever reason, they haven't put the stars next to his name yet.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Yeah, well none of that explains why 247 has not rated the kid. Is 247 modeling itself after rivals? I thought they wanted to be better than that.
Article from FreeP:
Cooper told Illinois recruiting analyst Tim O’Halloran of EdgyTim.com he's close to pledging to the Green and White.
“Some days I feel like just committing and getting it done so I can just go out and play football and not worry about recruiting," Cooper said. "I'm (leaning) towards Michigan State now and I'm going to the opening game against Boise State.”
The Spartans are tight on scholarship and they may only have room for one defensive end for the class. For that reason, it is possible that Cooper could end his recruitment shortly after next weekend.

Good decision Mr. Cooper!
I could have been a Rhodes Scholar, except for my grades. -Duffy Daugherty
Love this pickup. Possibly favorite of '13. Gets us in to "core6." Way to go staff!
"The rule of thumb is to avoid Tom Izzo and Michigan State like the plague." - Catspause.com, March 2009.

Welcome to MSU, Demetrius!
Great news. Welcome to the MSU family!
Maybe you should just welcome D first, lest he get the impression you consider him a means to another end.
