Interesting that MD is sending out late offers to JUCO DTs, even if they are nationally elite. How should we read into this? Is MD doubling down on DTs? Are we really that in need of big bodies inside?

Maybe Hoover doesn't want to come back next year? RCR have been saying for weeks that we want 2 more DTs though. Got to figure Peko is one of them

It's possible...I like Hoover, he's a GOOD kid but he's had a helluva time staying healthy and , well....it might be time. It's a brutal game, especially in the trenches and he's represented MSU well. If he stays, great I wish him well: same thing if he decides to go.
At the beginning of the season it was a good possibility that MSU would support Hoover if he petitioned the NCAA to grant him a 6th year of eligibility due to missing the entire 2011 season with an injury.
Now, after Hoover's injury problems this season, it appears less likely that he will ask for a 6th year.
I think it's too long a hill climb trying to get in late on these bigger national type JUCO guys like this. If we'd have made him a target earlier, good shot. Now it seems like we're scrambling and that never seems to put you in a position of strength when recruiting.
MSU is in Marquel's top 7, and when looking at the other six schools MSU has more than a fair shot. If we get him on campus there is a possibility to peak his interest. Sounds like the staff wants to offer him in person when he visits.
Have any of you watched his film? If not I recommend you do. Combs is a Force.

"Stats are for Losers." - Pat "Nardawg" Narduzzi
Couple of things that are going to be enticing to these Juco's that we have recently offered..
A flat out top 10 returning D and Immediate playing time. That gives STATE a fair shot. Top Juco's always seem like mercenaries to me, with the goal of getting to the league the best way possible. i don't really see getting in on them late is a huge concern as juco recruiting is a different animal. None of this means we land these kids, as they have offers from about everyone, but needless to say we have offer what most are looking for.
Agreed. JUCO recruiting is usually a little delayed (relative to HS recruiting).
In regard to MSU, I think the top 10 D and PT is a huge selling point, but also the fact Worthy and it appears ARW (from the draft boards I've seen) have/will be drafted the past two years.
If this was mid-December I'd agree. At this point there's little downside since we're not really in great shape with any of the remaining HS DT prospects in the 2013 class ex-Augusta.
We could also start to build a relationship with the coaches @ Combs' school. Pierce doesn't churn out D-1 prospects like College of the Canyons but there's always talent in Cali.
I'd be happy with one JUCO DT commit in the 2013 class - Kyle Peko.
I agree. I think we need someone like now as opposed to developing a project with upside like we'll already have to with salmon. It sounds like we'd take two JUCO DT's
Combs is a pure NT which is a real need for 2013 with A. R. White graduating. Combs would have 3 years to play 2. He is on schedule to graduate in Dec. Ted Gill is his main recruiter.
National JUCO signing day is Dec. 19th.

Thanks CBD. In your opinion is this a case where we've got a legitimate shot?
I think MSU has a legit chance with Combs. An OV to MSU is the real key.
Are we taking two more DTs?
Verbal to Kansas.
