yeah, some guys want to be in their comfort zone, and some want a new experience and to sort of do their own thing. I kind of get the impression that Boyd is the first type and would prefer to be in familiar surroundings with people he knows. MSU will have to impress him enough and make him feel comfortable as part of the MSU family, so he realizes that he doesn't have to settle for the local school. For a player of his caliber, going to Pitt is settling, in my opinon.
Let's not speculate about what Cox should do online publicly here. Recruits read this and it comes across badly often.
Wait what? UM discusses every single one of Shane Morris's tweets to recruits, how is saying we hope a big time recruit from the same area has some influence a bad thing?
It's an admittedly fine line but we should be very mindful of how we phrase things and whats appropriate for the public space. These recruits, understandably so, google their own names and read this stuff. I'll bet most, if not nearly all of them do it. I would too. Just be conscious of that is all I'm ultimately saying.
I get what you're saying.. I think tons of people on this board and others go overboard on recruits and say stupid stuff..
However, my comment, essentially saying that I hope his friend sells him on MSU, I don't think is particularly offensive in any way shape or form.
speaking specifically to that, your right, I believe there is a post from Jallenfan over on Brian Allen's profile that would suggest he's either close to the family or just that, family. I'm just as guilty and maybe more sometimes but we should all keep it in mind. That said, I don't know that there's anything wrong with hoping Cox can have an impact on a potential recruit depending on what direction it's taken.
Yep. Just saying that how we say things, in the littles ways, matters. Sometimes we can say something in a way that makes it sound like a player is a piece of meat or an just an asset in a recruiting game and not a young man making a huge life changing choice (not saying you did that.. just extreme examples can do that). Not considering that when a recruit googles their name together with "MSU" that this 247 thread is like the 3rd thing from the top. Happens to some degree all the time on recruiting and fan sites. I've been guilty of it too.
Sometimes I take it upon myself to do some "soft policing" on this issue... hopefully not too obnoxiously. It's a fine line often and I'm not perfect in judgement :)
If I remember correctly, Jallenfan started a thread about their nephew. But I cant remember if the thread was about Jack or Brian.
And because um does it it's a good idea?
My god dude, there's nothing offensive there. Droning on about nothing.
Either way. I think we're in pretty good standing if he does visit. I'm no recruiting guru, but it seems like every time a committed prospect visits elsewhere, they de-commit (not just us, but in general). Obviously it's never a sure thing either way.

Recruit Report: Boyd is ready to make mark in Division I
January 11, 2013 12:14 am
By Mike White / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Although the Clairton football team's high level of success has been fueled by many talented players over the past decade, the few Clairton players who have made it to the Division I college level have enjoyed moderate success, at best.
Tyler Boyd vows he will be different.
Boyd is a Clairton senior star who announced Saturday he will play next season at Pitt. Boyd played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Saturday in San Antonio, with some of the best players in the country. He made his college announcement during the game.
Boyd made his mark as a running back at Clairton, but he is expected to play receiver at Pitt. Boyd, who also played receiver in the Army game, is aware Clairton players haven't been extremely successful at the Division I college level.
"I think I'm a different player than the rest of the guys who have come out of Clairton," he said. "Just look at all the awards I've won and things I've accomplished. Just making this [Army All-American Bowl] game down here is something. I think I'm doing good things and I think I've proven myself."
Boyd played very little at receiver for Clairton. He was usually lined up in the backfield and finished his career as the fifth-leading rusher in WPIAL history.
But that didn't stop many colleges from recruiting him as a receiver. Penn State, West Virginia, Michigan State, Tennessee and Rutgers were his other finalists.

They generate a list of WPIAL players commited to Division I schools and leave off Terry and Williams, two of the most notable guys on the list, but cite a kid going to Akron. This publication, the Gazzette=poop on a stick
WPIAL is PIAA District 7 in Southwest PA. Cathedral Prep is in District 10 in Northwest PA. The Pittsburgh papers do not cover Erie.
You were much nicer to him than you should have been.
Why? The article stated it produced a list of division I players in the WPIAL. I didn't see any geographic limitations. Secondly, who cares if I think the writing is substandard? Jesus you guys are touchy.

Another Clariton teammate commits to Pitt. It will be very tough to pull Boyd away from Pitt
Clairton’s Webb commits to Pitt
By Keith Barnes
Clairton senior Terrish Webb became the third player from the Class of 2013 to verbally commit to Pitt to play football, joining teammates Tyler Boyd and Titus Howard. Boyd committed on national television during the first quarter of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, while Howard verballed prior to the season.
“We‘re just trying to start something in our hometown,” Webb said. “We‘re trying to better Pitt‘s organization.”
Webb went on his official visit to Pitt this past weekend and committed before he left the campus. He is coming in as an athlete but likely will be shifted to defensive back with Howard because of the quality of receivers in the Pitt recruiting class.
Webb had given Kent State a verbal commitment in September but was stunned when Pitt came through with a scholarship offer after Clairton won its fifth consecutive WPIAL Class A championship game at Heinz Field on Nov. 23. He did not notify the Golden Flash coaching staff, instead posting it on his Twitter account.

Sounds like a package deal if I have ever heard of one. You have to give Pitt's coaching staff credit they are pulling out all the stops with Boyd.
Boyd just got a bump from a 90 to a 93 rating
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Rocky, with this additional news do you think he visits?
Might as well lock this thread.
