It's nice to get a non-VIP update every once in a while.
scUM's coaches recently finished evaluations and have placed him in their top 3. Seems like an offer from them is iminent. Last week in an interview he mentioned that if they offered it would become a top 3. Interesting.
Good news on this front, as UofM just got a commitment from another QB. Wilton Speights out of VA.
Mid-3 star QB....so can we play the star game too now?
Would be absolutely huge to land this kid early in the process so he can start recruiting nationally for the team. Who is our biggest competition as of now? I know Michigan had said they were about to offer...looks like they are out. I doubt Alabama offers this early as it waits for other national guys to emerge. I would get a staff member down to Florida once a week to see him until we lock him up.
He said he wants to commit within 4-6 weeks, so it looks to be us and Vandy unless another emerges out of nowhere.
Not an easy fight by any means either. Vandy has improved their recruiting exponentially.
They got Jordan Cunningham who was a pal of mcgarett kings.
What are the chances you all think he goes green instead of Vandy?
Now with a PhD in Applied Llama Physics...
I think we have a pretty good shot. We're closer to home (he's originally from Canada) and he said Dantonio has made the biggest impact on him
Not to mention James Franklin the HC at Vandy used to be the qb coach and offensive coordinator for Maryland. So he has his sales pitch like Coach D has with DB's.
Dantonio puts DBs in the Leauge....Maryland does not put QBs in the League. And for that matter, MSU does a very nice job putting QBs in the NFL too.
Just curious...what does being a OC/QB coach at Maryland have to do with putting QBs in the league? The last Maryland QB to get drafted was Scott Zolak in 1991.

At this point, I would be surprised if he doesn't go green. I think we were already the favorite, with both the best location and best relationship. The only team that would have worried me was UM, because they have a similar location and have been recruiting him awhile I believe.
With UM likely out of it, I like MSU's odds very much. Only negative against us could be the depth in front of him. But IMO, the boldest QB's generally don't mind the competition, and I think O'Connor is a confident, capable QB prospect.
laconophilia is everywhere...
I remember hearing O'Connor's positive comments about a month ago but haven't seen anything since.
Where is your confidence of O'Connor going Green coming from?
What has he said lately?
I agree this would be a huge early get and would be part of a great nucleus for the 14' class.
It was said he had the most powerful arm and best accuracy at Nike Orlando camp this weekend.. Also latest news is that he very close to pulling the trigger and committing to STATE.. I really like that he is the top QB on our board and the interest is mutual. It would be great for us to lock up this kid early..
A kid with this talent, at the all important QB spot, can certainly go a long with with convincing other top flight talent that MSU is the right place for them.
I agree, the more I hear it, the more I love the idea of this kid. I think the services are being a little coy at giving him a higher ranking until they get to see him compete, i know his ranking isn't that old, but i don't think anyone wants to overrank him after changing to the 2014 class.
Besides the information on this site, which can sometimes be a little exaggerated, where else has said he is close to committing to msu? Not trying to flame, just would love to know. Kid would be a monster pick up.
Yea Exactly where is the info? He does list us and Vandy as warm and everybody else cool. Other than that..... Although I do remember hearing that He as well as Durkin and Kiezer are thinking/want to commit before there Senior year starts. But I have not seen nor heard that MSU was/is the FAVORITE. But I hope he picks MSU but even if he does not I like the other 2 options of Durkin or Kiezer so I am not freaking out over the QB position especially with D.Terry coming in this year! But the way it sounds he is/was the most impressive QB our coaching staff has seen/scouted.
This is a very interesting QB class....Do the coaches rank O'Connor, Henderson, Kizer, Durkin equal? First come first served? Or are some offers contingent.
From what I've heard, it's first come, first served. The staff may favor one over another, but the difference wouldn't be enough to turn down a commitment. Bottom line is that, if the staff didn't want a commit from the kid, they wouldn't have offered him in the first place.
O'Connor is the top QB of the coaching staff but they also love how Durkin fits their system I wish we could somehow be able to fit two QB commitments in this class.
Take two and talk OConnor into reclassifying to '15 again. i wouldn't want that to happen, just saying technically that would accomplish 2 of those quarterbacks being able to commit and work within or normal allotment of scholarships.
