Offered by UM.
As you can see by the extensive discussion in this kid's thread, I think it's guaranteed he's in Blue.
Let's not assume things until we offer. This kid is a future 5* talent similar to Gholston. I guess McDowell was going to transfer to Cass Tech, but ultimately decided against it. This itself bodes well in our favor.
We need to offer him immediately, then fight like hell.

Yeah, the hyperbole about Malik is approaching surreal levels. Dave Berk at Scout called him a "taller, younger Adolphus Washington." I believe it was one of your guys here that mentioned in an article that he looks like a combination of Gholston and Lawrence Thomas. One of the guys on our end at Rivals said McDowell could supplant Nick Perry has one of the best pass rushers in Michigan HS history.
So...yeah, seems like a good bet to be #1 in the state next year at this point.
Is there any film of him available ? A little early to be saying a lot of these things?
The only film I've seen was some scout 1on1 footage, but he's incredibly strong and quick for a 6'6'' 260 15 yr old.
Here's the Scout drills film. This is the performance that caused all the national pundits to get erections over him.
Yup. It's way too early to declare anything with him because at his age there is very little recruiting going on. This isn't a Shane Morris situation where he was pretty much guaranteed to go to Michigan as long as he got an offer.
The first real insight we'll get from him is when he attends the spring practice for both teams.
Im not sure if this is considered speculation or not but rumors are that the SEC big boys are after him and that he likes the SEC and UM.
If true about the SEC teams I would say there is quite a bit of recruiting going on.
Recruiting is fluid and things change. Maybe Big Will goes pro and is a top 10 pick and McDowell wants to replace him. Would love him for the Coming to America references also.
DETROIT -- Spartan Tailgate traveled to the Motor City to catch up with sophomore Detroit (Mich.) Loyola defensive lineman Malik McDowell for the latest with his recruitment.
Imported from Detroit! Hopefully, the kid stays healthy.I'm not a pundit so no wood
Your RCR stated MSU had offered. I think it was from 28 or 44 days ago.
Kid looks to be a beast, if I remember correctly he consistently beat Elmer at one of those football camps earlier this year.
Thats good news. My brother and alot of the michigan faithful on these boards have already declared him their Shane Morris of 2014 and the first commit. Everything coming out of his mouth seems to suggest he's going to give us a hard look. I don't know about you, but I'm not writing the kid off at all.
I hope he does give us a serious look.. Esp if Gholston and Rush have as good of years as expected.
The one thing that makes me nervous is the odds of us losing our D-Coordinator after this year. That could be (and would be) used against us with a blue-chip recruit.
Time will tell, but hopefully we make a hard press at this guy.
Hey not posting a link but there's a recent article with chantel Jennings of espn and it sounds like he wants to commit sooner than later. Supposedly a um lock but he's making two trips to EL in the next 30 days. Can't be bad.
Not trying to be a debbie downer, but the longer we get him to hold onto his verbal, the better. MSU has all-stars at his position this year. One should leave early as a high draft choice and have the chance to win national awards, the other (Rush) will have a solid year and position himself for a career in the pros..
By the same token, I don't think UM is expecting much success at DE this year. Would be a good comparison to make to him on a visit and point out the job our coaches have done coaching up talent...
I saw that too, and he really didnt hint anything about any school.
I am not a doctor
I would agree, but we're getting two of those chances to change his mind in the next 30 days.
You always hope to change a guy's mind by wowing him on a visit, but I think we're dealing with a true-blue Michgan fan here. He is a really nice kid who knows MSU is a legit option for elite defensive players, but he's going to follow his heart in the end.
Unfortunately your probably right.
Michigan State offered today. He said he was impressed with the day at State.
He visited MSU with his HS coach.
He will attend UM's spring game with his father.
Will he be at our spring game?

The article released last week mentioned that he was attending both spring games. Visiting twice in a 30 day period. It's not as if he's not giving us the chance to impress. Not willing to concede the kid based on a childhood team just yet.
