I like to think that if he walks away from UM today without hokes cheeto dust fingerprints all over him, that our chances are still pretty decent
Dantonio can tell him he can be the next Will Gohlston and then have Will tell him the exact same thing.
Please keep this thread on-topic, which means recruiting updates on McDowell. That does not mean talking about UM's recruiting, etc.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Is there a timeline for when he might commit? I gotta think that the longer it drags out, the better our chances are of landing him.

USC was there to watch him today and eventually theyre gonna offer him one of these days
I have an MBA...Master at Being Amazing
I believe in an interview with Chantel Jennings of ESPN he said that if he was allowed he would commit right now. But his parents are making him wait until maybe at least the summer.
Very interesting that Malik was considered a UM lean and his dad is allegedly such a huge UM fan, but his dad is encouraging Malik to wait on committing.
Ted Gill has done wonders for the known (William Gholston) and relatively unknown (Jerel Worthy) out of high school.
If Malik weighs all options, he'll realize MSU is quickly developing into a school that routinely puts players in the NFL at his position.

Hard not to speculate on this recruit. We shall see how this plays out
Class of 2010
Haven't heard that he made it to the spring game after saying he was going to attend. Hope his recruitment drags out as long as possible.
It's actually quite cool of his dad do want his son to take his time and make an informed decision like that. Either that or pops wants the rating services to see who offers and base stars on the offer list.
In the RCR comments, there is chatter of how our chances with Malik might be better than we had previously thought. Can anyone elaborate?
He camped at MSU last weekend and spent a lot of time with Gholston and Izzo. Looks like he might want to play hoops too, which Izzo can help with. I guess it made an impression on him.
Likely still a Michigan lock though, IMO

He likes MSU a little more than he did, and we'll get slightly more consideration before he commits to Michigan. I wouldn't get too excited about it.
Thanks! Yeah I can't say I have my hopes super high at this point, even with that knowledge. But at least he had that experience, it can't hurt our chances.
From everything I have read, he's not a michigan lock at all or a lock to anyone. The kid didn't even know the names of any of the coaches at O$U, SCUM, or us he practiced 20 times to say coach D's name before he went so he would say it right. He has stated that he wont let anyone try to push him to commit, and that he is gonna take all 5 official vists. Cass tech tried to get him to leave his other Detroit school to go to Cass and he said no. The kid loves gholston and that is his favorite player. I think you guys are being week thinking he is a michigan lock... Blah blah blah. Man up and know that we Spartans are here in the front of the big ten. And we have as good of chance as anyone.
I agree it's like they agree with Nike hart that we are their little brothers. Everyone is a Michigan lock in these MSU posters minds. They all need to sack up!
Am I nuts to think MSU has a legit shot? Sick Gholston and Izzo on him. He'll watch Gholston become a top 5 pick and become enamoured with the idea of joining his fellow top 2 2014 instate player (Drake Harris) as a duel sport guy at MSU.
Not only this but he would have a clearer shot to early playing time at MSU than at UM (as UM has loaded up in 2012 and 2013). Earlier playing time on a BETTER defense. MSU has a heck of a lot that should appeal to McDowell.
Also, I like that McDowell turned Cass Tech down. UM wanted him there badly and he resisted. Have to think MSU's chances are going to grow stronger with each passing day (assuming MSU gets it done on the field - and UM struggles ... which I do assume will happen)
+1, Great Post.
I was unaware that his favorite player is Too Tall Gholston, and love the fact he told Cass off.

He is not going to play hoops. Come on.
He plays basketball?
No, but he may think he will. That more or less wrapped up Dion Sims for MSU.
