247Sports Top100 offensive lineman Roderick Johnson is coming up through Michigan to see both the Spartans and Wolverines. What is he looking for from each (and both) schools?
Read the article on RJ. Hopefully he has a good visit to MSU and the staff can sell him on early playing time along with great coaching.
Will definitely be tough for us since he is going to scuM as well. I see two very big problems for us here. First, how are we supposed to compete with the fact that he will be able to start as a true freshmen at scuM ahead of all the other OL guys they signed the last two years.
Second, the scuM staff had such great involvement in making Michael Oher the great tackle that he is for the Ravens- will Bollman's actual development of a future all pro OT at MSU be able to compete with the hype machine that Mattison's two year DC stint helped mold Oher into the all pro that he has become???
Will hang up and listen. Thanks.
I see what you did there and I like it. Admittedly started reading and was saying to myself "what the eff is this dude" and then started laughing. I heard Mattison will be personally coaching both lines as well.
"I talk with Michigan State quite a bit," Johnson said. "I talk with the coaches a couple times a week and have been in good contact with a couple 2013 commitments as well (he couldn't remember who). I really like the coaching staff up there."
Could Steve Lorenz act, even for a second, like he gets paid to do this instead of injecting everything he writes with snide scUM fanboy undertones? He didn't need to add the information in the parenthesis for the story at all.
You know, all we hear about is how obsessed we are with Michigan. There are 8 comments on that article, and about 6 of them have to do with MSU. I think the obsession runs both ways.
My only intention was to give everyone an answer to the inevitable question that would have followed, which is who the commitments would have been. That's all. I don't see how him not remembering which commitments he talked to is considered "snide scUM fanboy undertones". I apologize if that's how you read it.
If that was truly your intention, why didn't you list the coaches he has talked to? I'm sure people are just as curious about that as they are about the commitments. Or, maybe, you were just interested in throwing that in there because your readers would be tickled to hear that he doesn't talk that much to the commits if he can't remember who they are?
It's not as if Johnson has talked to any current Michigan commitments. It was a unique positive he mentioned regarding MSU and I thought it was worth noting that Spartan commitments have been working on some of their top targets. If anything, it seemed a lot more positive for Michigan State that their commitments had been in contact with him.
Again, I apologize if that's what you take out of it. Johnson had no leanings towards either school whatsoever and is really looking forward to both trips. He really likes MSU's coaching staff as a whole, which is why I didn't mention names as well; he made it sound like he's talked to multiple members. With Michigan it's been just Ferrigno.
Don't take it personally Steve. If Johnson said couldn't remember who then I don't see anything wrong with it. Some people just automatically assume anything that could have a negative spin on it is UofM propaganda. Or they are just having a bad day.
Would like CBD to weigh in on this, where Johnson ranks on our board.
Listed as the #8 OT, and has offers from Bama, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M...only has Mizzou listed as "warm" though. Everyone else is "cold".
Says Samuel is his primary recruiter.
Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate.
Roderick will be on campus tomorrow to check out spring practice and the MSU campus.
Excellent! Hope the weather is a little warmer than it has been and he has a good visit.
The weather is great hear in East Lansing clear skies not to cold. So I would imagine he is enjoying his visit.
