From Steve on tBB watching the Columbus NFTC:
Michigan State LB commit Chris Frey is as fluid a LB you're going to find.
JC Shurburt just said he is "grossly underrated."
Dorsey also said he got a note from a friend who stated Frey is a legit 6'2 215lbs. I know there had been some wide ranges of his height and weight. A couple years of strength training should get him up in the 230s easily.
MSU always churns out excellent Linebackers with Mike Tressell teaching this young man I expect good things from Frey but he absolutely is underrated as are a lot of MSU recruits.
Especially cuz he'll be playing STAR - requires a bit more coverage ability.

VIP posts about a commit? Come on guys
laying in the weeds
Sorry about that, post I quoted was VIP so it automatically made mine VIP as well.
Sounds like Chris had a very good camp performance this weekend in Columbus. Many analysts said he is very underated and were very impressed.

#MichiganState commit Chris Frey is an underrated LB prospect based on today combined with film. @SeanScherer247 #Spartans
Well, bump him up!
This. Cracks me up to hear an analyst of a service claiming someone is grossly underrated. Do they not realize that they have a direct coorelation to the player's rating and perception as many others don't see the players play in these camps?
Could be they don't control that region... or that they didn't get to see him much until now.
I'm pretty sure Shurburtt is the National Recruiting Analyst so it's probably the latter rather than the former.
From the NFTC article on the front page.
"Chris Frey, LB, Columbus (Ohio) Upper Arlington- The Michigan State commit shows plus athleticism on film and that was evident Sunday. He also brings a certain level of intensity to drills and plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Frey’s potential has always been there and his rise in the 247Sports prospect rankings in the near future should reinforce the notion that the Spartans made a great evaluation here."
"Stats are for Losers." - Pat "Nardawg" Narduzzi
There was also this comment from the article: "Again, watch out for Frey at the next level and possibly beyond"
First there was Frey getting removed from the 7-on-7 drill because he got a bit carried away and then there's this report about his intensity. Sounds like MSU landed quite a player and it'll be great to see his tenacity in the green and white.
Really glad we got in on the ground floor with this kid.
Figure Frey is going to end up in the 88-90 range in the next 247 rankings. Great find for MSU and props to 247 for recognizing that they had under-rated a guy.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
That is what Mark D does.
I usually roll my eyes when people get worked up about kids not getting a 4th star, but in this, what else can he do? It would completely bizarre if he's not at least an 88.
Could say the same thing for Brian Allen, or Chris James. All he did was run for 2,000 yards, no big deal. BA is a camp MVP and is attending the opening, no big deal. If Dilfer was looking for QB's instead of stories he can tell to get more air time looking into their souls he'd be going too.
