With MSU's regular season ended the emphasis is now on recruiting. For about the next 30 days until the recruiting dead period starts, the MSU staff will be visiting prospects around the USA.
MSU currently has 2 or 3 scholaships still avaiable for 2013. Here is a look at the prospects they will be recruiting the hardest :
JUCO DT Kyle Peko - MSU still leads for him even after he officially visited Neb. He still plans to take official visits to Utah and Boise St. I would be very surprised if he doesn't eventually choose MSU. Note : He won't be an early enrollee now wherever he chooses but will graduate in May 2013 so he could be on campus in June.
MI, OL David Dawson - All indications are that MSU currently leads for him. He is planning to take official visits to MSU, o$u and Wisc.
IL, DL Josh Augusta - His current top 4 are Mizzou, MSU, Ole Miss and ILL in that order. Planning to take an official visit to MSU.
JUCO DL Trevon Trejo - MSU leads over New Mex., New Mex. St. and Nev. Officially visited MSU for the NW game. May take a couple more official visits before announcing his decision. All indications are that he will be a Spartan.
FL, ATH Justin Williams - MSU offered him early on in the recruiting process and took a renewed interest in him after he had an excellent Sr. season. Big, fast athlete who projects to CB, S, RB + KO Returner at the next level. His top 4 in no particular order are MSU, Purdue, Cinci and FIU. MSU is trying to schedule him in for an official visit.
PA, ATH Tyler Boyd - Superb athlete who projects to WR, RB, CB, S, + KO & Punt Returner at the next level. His top 6 on no particular order are MSU, Pitt, WVU, Rutgers, AZ, and Wisc. MSU is trying to schedule him in for an official visit.
GA, DL Antonio Riles - FL verbal. Has said that he would like to take an official visit to MSU. Pat Narduzzi and Dave Warner are double teaming in his recruitment. Would be a real coup if he were to flip to MSU.
JUCO DT Toby Johnson - MSU is trying to schedule him in for an official visit.
JUCO DT Marquel Combs - MSU is trying to schedule him in for an official visit.
FL, ATH Lamar Robbins - MSU is staying in contact with him but OK and WVU lead.
GA, DT Montravius Adams - MSU is staying in contact with him and trying to schedule him in for an official visit. UGA appears to be in the lead for him.
OH, DT Donavon Munger - MSU's recruitment of him seems to be on-again, off-again. Most feel that o$u leads for him. Will be interesting if MSU does schedule him in for an official visit.
Thanks for the info CBD!
Would love for us to get a Jerel 2.0. Defense missed the inside push.
It will be interesting to see how we finish up.
Great way to end the class if possible
The MSU staff likes Trejo's size and size potential and they feel he does have some athleticism. They are concentrating on some JUCO DL who they think could come in and make an immediate contribution.
They have a lot of ground to make up with the big name JUCO's like Johnson and Combs so Trejo may be a better option at this time.
Note : Now that MSU has offered Trejo, I think some more teams will try to get involved with him, as usual.

Would they take both Trejo and Peko?
I see Peko has three years to play two, but am I reading it right that Trejo would have four to play three. I also see that 247 thinks of him more as a DE and he's listed at DE size 6'5" 240. I wonder if they'll consider trying to make Lawrence Thomas a TE and sorta give his spot on the DL to Trejo?
Peko and Trejo play different positions. I don't think they're mutually exclusive.
MSU would take both Peko and Trejo.
No plans to move LT to TE even though he did get some reps @ TE on the Scout Team his true Fr. year because #'s were thin there at that time.
Sorry if this has been discussed, but what is the plan with LT? DT? FB?
The plan is to move him back to D for bowl practices.
Short term, LT was moved to FB because Niko Palazeti was injured and Taylor Calero, who was moved to FB from DE, left the team.
Long term, LT will be on the DL.
Note : MSU is still thin at the FB position so the staff would like to add a walk-on FB.
CBD you think we are still a front runner with Dawson? He will probably take all his visits and us being last has to be a good thing.
DT or DE? My guess is DT....too big to play DE isn't he?
But Michigan has 5 or 6 OL recruits visiting on Dec 14th ( i think thats the date), and only one spot left. Dawson may have to commit fast if he actually wants to go to Mich
Too close to call right now. Dawson's recruitment has had a lot of twists and turns lately.
There is a chance he will re-commit to um even before he visits MSU.
Don't ever forget that he is a Cass Tech kid.

LT will get reps during Bowl practices at both DT and DE. His size isn't prohibitive for him to play DE. He is a good athlete for his size.
No doubt in my mind he recommits.
Hopefully he can get up to speed as a DL quickly after spending time at FB. Reason number 9,654 that making a bowl was big in keeping this season from being a total disaster.
If it's that much of a lock, why didn't he do so as soon as Hoke reoffered? Every day that passes seems to me like good news for us or OSU on Dawson, but anyone who tries to predict this particular recruitment is probably going to be wrong.
Agreed. It also sounds like UM has a few other options for their last OL spot so who knows who will get first option to commit.
That's the true question. They are without a doubt going to put on a production of Hollywood caliber performances when he visits. All of the other commits will put on a happy face and fake it for a day. The staff will heap praises on him and tell him they never said anything derogatory about him and that it was "mainly the media, you know how these things go David".
I'm expecting the full court press. If they're offering Finley this late, they're scrambling because they know something.
Probably b/c he didnt want it to look like he's begging to come back. Don't be naive, Dawson is going back to UM.
I guess that makes some sense, but I'll just restate my second sentence.

MSU will sign 2-4 more recruits for 2013.
Here are the prospects who MSU has a chance with currently :
JUCO DT Kyle Peko - MSU has been his leader right along and it would be a surprise if he doesn't choose MSU.
FL, ATH Justin Williams - His top 3 are MSU, Purdue and Cinci. Planning an Official Visit to MSU on Jan. 18th.
JUCO DL Demetrius Cherry - Recent offer. May take an Official Visit to MSU.
NJ, DE Alquadin Muhammed - MSU is in his top 4 but ND leads. Planning an Official Visit to MSU in Jan.
PA, ATH Tyler Boyd - MSU is in his top 4 along with Pitt, WVU, and Wisc.
GA, DL Antonio Riles - FL verbal but he is looking around. MSU is trying to schedule him in for an OV.
FL, DT Jaynard Bostwick - MSU is in his top 6.
NJ, DE Tashawn Bower - De-committed from Auburn. MSU is trying to schedule him in for an OV.
FL, ATH Lamar Robbins - MSU is staying in contact with him but looks like a long shot.
Recruits who could receive late offers :
MI, DT Kenton Gibbs
MI, ATH Desmond King
Note : MSU is still in contact with some other prospects who are committed to schools who have changed HC's but no indications at this time of any who might flip.
