My only thought is that he could be more of a high risk, high reward type player. Alabama can afford to take a risk b/c they cut players anyway. Wisconsin already has depth at the position, so they can take some riskier prospects too.
This is all just guesswork though.
laconophilia is everywhere...
Yeah, its possible that he needs to be developed more. I believe the reasoning for not offering him was that he was too raw, and Bama and Wisconsin can obviously develop him well.
Probably the post of the year. I'm worn out hearing how risky he is. His offer sheet is better than any of the current 15 we've signed. I love this class to death but I think we're wiffing on this kid.
On that note we could have had him easily after he spent 3 days on campus with his mother. Momma wanted to keep him closer to home than Wisconsin and it was evident in the two interviews she gave.
No offense skip, but you getting tired of hearing doesn't affect that it might simply be the case.
It's hard to claim the coaches whiff on any prospect until that player is good. Quite frankly, even if he goes AA at Alabama, it doesn't mean MSU made the wrong decision. If you roll the dice 10 times on kids with a 20% chance of success, you might have 2 AA's, but you've also got 8 wasted scholarships.
You know what you could be right and I hope you are in this case but my point is that he's been offered by staffs with a better track record than hours. How is someone with those offers and and a solid rating a risk?
EVERYONE is a risk IMO, but given this guy's measurables and offers, I just can't comprehend how it's a risk our coaches aren't willing to take. If we landed some of our Plan A guys this year, I would completely understand, but If this kid isn't worth the risk, I'm having a very difficult time seeing anyone left on our board who is.
Depending on how raw of a talent he is, there could be varying degrees of risk regarding his ability to improve his technique.
Honestly, I agree that his recruitment has been strange thus far and I wish the coaches would have pursued him more, I'm just trying to guess at where they're coming from.
Maybe he didn't perform as well in EL and the coaches want him to come back for a camp to make sure before they offer him? Idk, I'm just trying to make sense out of them not offering yet.
Caleb Benenoch is a verbal to UCLA
Was the '14 thread nuked as well?
Interesting, thought he'd stay in TX.
At this point I wouldn't have been surprised if he commited to Florida A&M. This was as confusing and drawn out as any recruitment I've seen. Best of luck to him. We can argue that he made a huge mistake de-commiting from us but look at all the trouble it saved us. We had early notice and we didn't have to fight eachother on his thread about whether or not he was going to do it all summer/fall. In all honesty, he did it the best way possible. He's going, going, back, back, to Cali, Cali.
Closer to home....hahaha. Biggest drama recruit I can remember since Jadeveon Clowney and Cyrus Kouandjio..... That being said best of luck to him when Jim Mora, Jr. leaves for an NFL job.

If Nitro started it, then yes. Again, I feel bad about the whole thing, as little good as that does.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Not surprised, he loved Cali.
Shit happens, don't let it bother you.
Yeah Rockey has apologized more than enough publicly and in direct messages.
I consider Rockey one of the best moderators I've seen on a sports board. He strikes the right balance of leeway and enforcement and that balance is actually not as easy or common as one might think. Most people don't understand how much better boards are with proper management by moderators and how shitty it gets when you don't have that.
Let me know when the signed LOI is faxed in. Not that it really matters to me anymore, anyway.
Are there any other realistic O-Line targets for this class?
Outside of Dawson and the Wisconsin guys I mean...
Any interest in Juco players for the OL?
Knevel is the only other I can think of off the top of my head.
Hunter Knighton and Tristan Nickelson also might be possibilities, but both are probably unlikely.

See Jandy's comments above. Landing Dawson would make things pretty much o.k. (they took 4 OL last year, though I don't know how good Conklin is). Figure Brian Allen is who they've keyed in on for the C of the future; they took 2 OGs and an OT in '12 (not counting Conklin), took an OT in '13 and hopefully an OG as well.
They're going to need 4 OL in '14 though.
