Conklin and McGowan are the best of the OL taken in '12. Don't sleep on Jack - he's a bright kid with some solid tools.
I thought Conklin was performing extremely well on the scout team? read that somewhere here.
People were pretty high on Kieler too. Kid is supposedly an outstanding athlete; played DE for a long time.
If Conklin works out, then MSU's OL concerns are greatly reduced. Folks are generally feeling good about Higgins/McGowan at OG.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
We heard more than once late summer that Kieler showed up yoked and looking to battle. Sometimes those under the radar kids have something to prove. He had the size.
No one, from other staffs to analyst seemed to have any issue with Zach or Benny. Benny went to the opening. Both were considered top Ohio kids. I think we know what we've got with Allen don't we? He had some lapses but OL is hard to put time in as a freshman. He could be fantastic next season. What did you think?
Jack Allen? I think he may force Jackson to move to OG. Kid is not a guard, but he's got the makings of one heck of a center. Jackson should be able to handle the OG transition better.
I heard really good reviews about the true FR OL; they all showed up in great shape reportedly. Can't ask for much more than that. Also heard some good things about Fennell.
Conklin and Kieler were both pretty much under the radar kids. Hoping at least one of the 2 pan out. Finley is a good prospect but maybe a little bit of a project. I like that all 3 were in state kids. Dawson would really solidify the group from 12 and 13 and would be the gem of the bunch. Going forward it would be nice to start recruiting OLmen like we recruit LBers and WRs. Those are the 2 position groups that we seem to have the most success getting 4 stars.
Then why do you want us to let you know when the LOI is faxed in?
I really think the performance of the true FR OL this year on the scout team has assuaged the concerned of the staff to the point where they're only going after guys that they think are truly impact players (Dawson). Another MSU site has stated what I believe has been alluded to her around here - that Conklin has really looked good. We've heard it all before, but I think combined with the lack of OL the staff has sought after whiffing on their Plan A guys (Bosch and Kugler) speaks volumes as to how much they think of the guys that came in this year.
(Or, in the alternative, it means that the Plan B and C guys were really bad, who knows).
Good post natron
Reading between the lines, I think this is a fair conclusion.
The coaches need to listen to the valuable judgement of the posters on this board that have concluded after thorough research and player reviews that our offensive line recruiting and development has been torrid and the coaching staff is hopelessly lost on how to properly recruit and coach an offensive line unit.
You can't possibly think that these posters are wrong about our coaching staffs ability to evaluate and develop talent. Don't believe everything you hear about the good things that happen on our scout team.

Torrid means hot. Did you mean horrid?
Can't wait for Dr. Death Jr. to start mowing down QB's.
Think he was using it to say the coaches were recruiting at a hot pace, like burning it up.
What are you even talking about?
Natron just commented that murmurs about 2012 lineman being positive added to the fact that MSU is only adding 1 OL in 2013 and seemingly only recruiting one more COULD mean they're happy with the younger crop of guys.
I said it was a "fair" conclusion. It could be right and it could be wrong, but I'm not sure why you see that as controversial.
I don't. That was just a figure of speech.
All Sarcasm. Sorry if that actually confused some folks. I truly agree with Natron's post as the most likely trend we will begin to see in the development of our OL.
I was making fun of all the folks in the David Dawson thread that have given up on our coaches and have declared the beginning of the end in our OL recruiting and development. It was rather nice to have someone post with an optimistic yet well founded outlook regarding the OL group,
laconophilia is everywhere...
Wisconsins DC Chris Ash will join Bielema at Arkansas, could only help us with Alec James and Connor Sheehy.
I'm not sure, but I think the DL coach is the big one that a few recruits mentioned by name as important.
Just a hunch, but doesn't a D coordinator usually take all his defensive position coaches w him as well? Unless Wiscy offers the new d coordinator job to the current d line coach.
Definite plus as you state. Really want Alec James.
Partridge (DL coach) was actually promoted to Associate Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator (along with DL coach) in 2011.
So he would be a very good candidate for DC at Wisconsin, as well as for Beilema to take him down south. If Beilema offers a large pay increase, I'd be a bit surprised if Partridge stayed without being promoted to DC or even HC.
